BUENA PARK, Calif.—Founded in 1985, the Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards is the foremost program recognizing the achievements of audio professionals. Presented annually by the Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio, the TEC Awards honor the individuals, companies and technical innovations behind the sound of recordings, films, TV shows and live performances.

In the category of Recording Devices, the panel nominated the POCKETRAK 2G; the IM8 mixing consoles have been nominated in the Sound Reinforcement Console Technology category and Cubase 5 is under consideration for a Workstation Technology award.

TEC Awards nominations are made by a panel of industry professionals and voted upon by members of various professional organizations and audio-industry websites. The awards are presented at a ceremony held each fall during the annual convention of the Audio Engineering Society. Voting for the TEC Awards is carried out by members of prominent professional audio and music industry organizations and websites (including the Audio Engineering Society, Producers & Engineers Wing of the Recording Academy and Broadjam.com), who register online and vote via a secure online ballot during the month of August.

Weighing only 1.7 ounces (49 grams) complete with battery, the Yamaha POCKETRAK 2G Pocket Recorder is an unbeatable choice. It's only a half-inch (13 millimeters) thick and will slip unobtrusively into a shirt pocket. But this diminuitive, lightweight package contains a large 2GB memory plus advanced digital audio technology that lets you record and playback with outstanding quality.

In addition to a CD-quality linear PCM recording mode that lets you record up to 3 hours of music, there are a number of MP3 modes that provide significantly longer recording times. The supplied long-lasting rechargeable battery can keep the POCKETRAK 2G running for up to 9 hours continuously when recording in MP3 mode. Slide out the built-in USB connector and connect the POCKETRAK directly to your computer to transfer files back and forth, and use the bundled CUBASE AI digital audio workstation software to edit and enhance your recordings with pro-level control.

The IM8 mixing consoles help small and medium-sized venues and touring productions get the most from their live sound mixing boards at a reasonable price. The eight-bus IM8 series, which fill a large gap in the analog console market, includes the same build-quality and rigorous testing procedures as the wildly successful PM series mixing consoles and will be available in three models with 24 (IM8-24), 32 (IM8-32) and 40 (IM8-40) channels, respectively. All three models inherit technology from Yamaha's professional consoles and deliver low-noise, intuitive operation. With Yamaha's innovative single-knob compression feature, operators can dial in the right amount of compression simply and quickly.
