Dolby Pro Logic II
Dolby Pro Logic II is an improved technique used to decode vast numbers of existing Dolby Surround sources. This technology enables a discrete 5-channel playback with 2 front left and right channels, 1 center channel, and 2 surround left and right channels instead of only 1 surround channel for conventional Pro Logic technology. There are three modes available: “Music mode” for music sources, “Movie mode” for movie sources and “Game mode” for game sources.
Dolby, Pro Logic, and the double-D symbol are registered trademarks of Dolby Laboratories.
DTS DIGITAL SURROUND NEW
The basic DTS 5.1 channel sound format. Uses a higher data rate than Dolby Digital.
XM - XM Ready
A product with this feature indicates that the item is XM Satellite Radio (XM Ready), allowing you to hear over 150 digital channels of music, news, sports, talk and entertainment from America's number one Satellite Radio service. With the addition of the optional digital antenna XM Mini-Tuner Home Dock and the XM Mini-Tuner accessories sold separately, just subscribe to XM Satellite Radio and hear radio as it was meant to be!
XM HD Surround Sound
XM and Neural Audio Corporation announce XM HD Surround, which provides content with six discrete channels of digital full fidelity audio powered by Neural Audio technology. Marking the first time that a radio company has broadcast in 5.1 Surround Sound twenty-four hours a day. Beginning in April 2006, XM will broadcast the Fine Tuning® (XM Channel 76) and the classical pops music channel XM Pops (XM Channel 113) in XM HD Surround. XM will also broadcast a variety of special shows and live music performances at the XM studios in XM HD Surround.
Neural Surround represents the latest advancement in surround technology and has been adopted by XM Satellite Radio for digital radio broadcast of surround recordings and live events in surround sound. Neural Surround employs psychoacoustic frequency domain processing which allows delivery of a more detailed sound stage with superior channel separation and localization of audio elements. System playback is scalable from 5.1 to 7.1 multi-channel surround playback.

6 Ch Ext Input
6 additional input jacks for discrete multi-channel input. Front (Left, Center, Right), Rear (Surround Left & Right) and Subwoofer
CINEMA DSP Digital™
Conventional multichannel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby® Digital and DTS Digital Surround™ decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha CINEMA DSP Digital™ is much more advanced; actually creating independent sound fields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects located in separate sound fields, you will hear sound with directionality, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and presence.
Yamaha has developed a natural, realistic DSP algorithm for headphones. Parameters for headphones have been set for each sound field so that accurate representations of all the sound field programs can be enjoyed with a pair of headphones.
Compressed Music Enhancer
Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms to enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3 and WMA. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life to be as close to the original recording as possible.
SCENE – A New Level of Operating Ease
With most AV components, watching or listening to what you want requires a number of steps. You have to turn on the AV receiver, turn on another component like a Blu-ray Disc™ player, select the source, select the surround mode and then press play. With the SCENE feature from Yamaha, all you need to do is press one button and both components turn on, the correct DSP setting is made, and play begins.
YPAO™ Automatic System Calibration
The Yamaha Parametric Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO) uses a small microphone and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters, such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers and even the sound pressure level, until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room.
HDMI® (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio / video interface. Providing an interface between any source (such as a set-top box or AV receiver) and an audio / video monitor (such as a digital television), HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high-definition video as well as multichannel digital audio using a single cable. HDMI transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports 8-channel digital audio with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements. When used in combination with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), HDMI provides a secure audio / video interface that meets the security requirements of content providers and system operators.

DVD is essentially a large capacity optical video storage media that contains movies or other video content for home entertainment. DVD has become the standard for video publishing by most movie and video studios.
DVD Players equipped with Video CD capabilities will be able to play video and sound media that has been compressed together using the MPEG 1 standard, and recorded onto a CD disc.
DivX is the video compression codec developed by DivX Networks and based on the MPEG-4 compression format. Its balance of high video quality and low bit rate has made it very popular and quickly established it as the best home video format thus far. The ability to play it on newer DVD models continues to add to its popularity as DivX Networks advances its support to many new household products. This compression technology has the potential for expanding the ways we view video media in much the way MP3 has given us many new ways to listen to music.
Short for MPEG-1 layer 3 audio, MP3 is a compression process used to shrink audio files by filtering out all noise that is not detectable to the human ear. MP3 is considered near CD quality, but the file itself occupies approximately one tenth to one twelfth the space of the original CD format, making it the perfect medium for today’s smaller, memory based portable media players.
