Adjustable thumb rest
Beginning students are often find playing the saxophone difficult due to the weight of the instrument. One solution to this problem is by moving the thumbrest to a more optimal position with the assistance of the private teacher or band director. The Yamaha Advantage saxophone features this style of adjustable thumbrest.
Gold lacquer body and keys
Student level instruments are commonly found with nickel plated keys which give a silver look again the gold colored body. While nickel plating on the keys has a durability advantage over an extended period of time, students often wish their instrument looked like a "pro" saxophone with gold keys and body. The Advantage saxophone fulfills this dream by combining the beautiful gold lacquer body with gold lacquer keys.
Innovative plastic case with "luggage style" latches
A commonly overlooked area of most student saxophones is the durability of the case. Students and parents are demanding of a durable, yet lightweight carrying case. This case must be able to withstand all types of use and abuse from bus stop to band room. The molded plastic design and luggage style latches of the Advantage saxophone case provide the needed security necessary for student use.
Epoxy used for attaching the bell
Repair technicians have long lauded Yamaha's use of epoxy rather than solder for attaching the bell of the student level saxophones. The bottom bow of a saxophone is a common place for students to get dents removed and this usually involves removing the bell from the instrument. With a soldered bell, this will involve re-lacquering the instrument once the bell is re-attached. The use of an epoxy glue is a great time saver for repair technicians.
