Subwoofer Trim for Improved Sound Imaging

SCENE – A NEW LEVEL OF OPERATING EASE
Four SCENE buttons make operating the receiver easier than ever. They are initially set to default settings for DVD viewing, disc listening, TV viewing and radio listening. Pressing a SCENE button automatically launches a number of operations that initiate play of the source controlled by that button. Other SCENE settings are also available, such as iPod listening, XM listening, TV sports viewing and action game playing. Browsing and selecting the settings is quickly accomplished by changing Input via the front panel and watching the on-screen display. The settings can be selected for one-time use or they can replace the original default settings. The SCENE names can be changed, too.

YPAO™ Automatic System Calibration
Yamaha’s YPAO system uses a small microphone and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First, it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters, such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers and even the sound pressure level, etc. Until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room and you don't have to do anything!
ECO Mode
ECO mode reduces power consumption by about 20 percent*. It can be set easily from the top of the GUI/OSD menu.

I used this to replace a 10 yr. old Onkyo which had good sound but no HDMI inputs. It is paired with a JBL center channel, satellites and two vintage Altec-Lansing front speakers and an Infinity sub-woofer.
Hooking up the Yamaha was very easy, especially with the HDMI cables between the bluray and the HD cable box.
After it was set up, I used the remote mic to auto calibrate the speakers and then just tweaked the setting slightly to adjust for my taste.
The sound is clear and clean and the dialog in a movie that was getting lost before, is much better and easier to discern from the background audio.
Overall, I am very happy with the purchase for the money. But I only have it for 2 weeks, so I haven't used it too much yet and look forward to testing it with other movies. And I did have one instance where I had no sound and had to shut it off and restart it before it kicked in. Probably nothing and it only happened once.
I only gave it 4 stars because I have heard better, but it's 5 stars versus other receivers in the same price range.

Replaced an older Pioneer 5.1 unit that didn't have HDMI inputs. The 4 HDMI inputs perfectly fit my needs with 2 BD players, an upconverting DVD recorder and a PC with a DVI-D output - on which I used a converter plug to turn into HDMI. Greatly simplified my cabling removing the need for an optical audio switcher, and, kind of surprisingly, improved the picture quality. It may be that the 4K bandwidth eliminated some interference but I know my picture now has greater overall contrast than before when the same equipment was connected directly to the TV using the same HDMI cables. Kind of what I expect from Yamaha generally - always a bit better than the competition.
I also like how easy it is to see how many channels are active in the sources - that graphical presentation on the front of the receiver gives you immediate knowledge of what your source is actually providing - and that coupled with the ability to distribute stereo sources equally or with various DSP effects makes this a really great piece of home theater equipment!

Great little receiver for the price! Doesn't have a lot of power, so I think it's best for smaller rooms! Don't care for the remote control as the buttons are too small and mute button is not very visible! Hard to beat for an entry level receiver!

I use the rx -v373 with a thumb drive with downloaded cds with two Polk TSi 100 bookshelf speakers. Works great with very good sound. My last Yamaha receiver lasted fifteen years, so needless to say I bought another Yamaha.

Excellent product and Typical of Yamaha quality. Do yourself a favor and print out the excellent owners manual before setup. It will make fine-tuning of the unit really easy. Give the unit plenty of ventilation, it runs hot. HDMI switching is a bit finicky, but that is a result of HDMI specifications, not the unit. Turning off HDMI control solves most of the problems.
