SCENE for One-touch Start
Pressing a SCENE button powers on the AV receiver and selects the input source and DSP mode. You can reset the buttons for different sources by selecting a source and DSP mode then pressing a SCENE button for more than three seconds.

HDMI CEC for Easy Operation
Another benefit of HDMI is the availability of CEC functionality. When the unit is connected to a CEC compatible TV, it will turn on and off together with the TV and you can use the TV remote to control the volume. CEC also provides advanced functionality with other components. For example, you can use the receiver’s remote unit to control player functions like Skip and Stop.

Subwoofer Trim for Improved Sound Imaging
The Subwoofer Trim control enhances the low frequencies by avoiding overlap with the front speaker output. Adaptive DRC (Dynamic Range Control)
Adaptive DRC automatically adjusts the dynamic range of the sound according to the volume level. This ensures that you hear clear dialogue and vocals and all sound effects at comfortable levels. SCENE – A NEW LEVEL OF OPERATING EASE
Four SCENE buttons make operating the receiver easier than ever. They are initially set to default settings for DVD viewing, disc listening, TV viewing and radio listening. Pressing a SCENE button automatically launches a number of operations that initiate play of the source controlled by that button. Other SCENE settings are also available, such as iPod listening, XM listening, TV sports viewing and action game playing. Browsing and selecting the settings is quickly accomplished by changing Input via the front panel and watching the on-screen display. The settings can be selected for one-time use or they can replace the original default settings. The SCENE names can be changed, too.

YPAO™ Automatic System Calibration
Yamaha’s YPAO system uses a small microphone and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First, it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters, such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers and even the sound pressure level, etc. Until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room and you don't have to do anything!
ECO Mode
ECO mode reduces power consumption by about 20 percent*. It can be set easily from the top of the GUI/OSD menu.

I used this to replace a 10 yr. old Onkyo which had good sound but no HDMI inputs. It is paired with a JBL center channel, satellites and two vintage Altec-Lansing front speakers and an Infinity sub-woofer.
Hooking up the Yamaha was very easy, especially with the HDMI cables between the bluray and the HD cable box.
After it was set up, I used the remote mic to auto calibrate the speakers and then just tweaked the setting slightly to adjust for my taste.
The sound is clear and clean and the dialog in a movie that was getting lost before, is much better and easier to discern from the background audio.
Overall, I am very happy with the purchase for the money. But I only have it for 2 weeks, so I haven't used it too much yet and look forward to testing it with other movies. And I did have one instance where I had no sound and had to shut it off and restart it before it kicked in. Probably nothing and it only happened once.
I only gave it 4 stars because I have heard better, but it's 5 stars versus other receivers in the same price range.

This was a replacement for another Yamaha receiver that I purchased as a complete system several years ago. I needed to get with the times and have HDMI ports on the receiver. It was a little challenging setting it up, but once I was able to get it going, I fell in Love with it! I am loving the IPOD control. Not only do the songs appear on the receiver screen and TV, but I can also control the songs with the remote. I like the fact that I can label the ports and they show up on the receiver screen. Other than setting it up, I cannot think of any bad things about the receiver. Yamaha, itself, is a great product. I plan on purchasing more speakers so that I can connect the old receiver to another TV in my basement....

This is a very nice home receiver for the price. I love the YPAO setup and on-screen menu is pretty easy to navigate. I will say, I feel like this is more geared to movie & TV watchers. Though, with a little tweaking you can make music sound very full with the built-in sound scenes. Almost every connection can be routed to whatever configuration you want and HDMI control works well with my Sony TV. The only issue I noticed is that this unit run a little warm but doesn't seem like anything to get worked up over.

Excellent sound and the 5.1 channel mixing is well rounded. The unit is well made and looks good. Requires quite a bit of work to route speaker wiring. Although the directions for setting up the speakers was simple and accurate what followed was disappointing. The audio does not always connect with our Smart TV, there appears to be no clear cut reason either. My inquiries to the tech line have not been returned.

This is a fantastic all-around hub for a Home Theater, as well as a powerful amp for driving Tower speakers in Stereo mode. I have to say, this doesn't surprise me, since I've owned Yamaha products before (previous receivers, guitars, a motorcycle). But I am very pleased with its ease of use, how LOUDLY it drives CD's, Pandora and iPod music/songs with little or no distortion. I also love experimenting with the various sound dispersion settings, found by pressing the MUSIC button on the remote. Among them: 2 CH Stereo, 5 Channel; Hall In Munich; Hall In Vienna; The Roxy; Music Video; and many others. Awesome array of choices and sound signatures--love that! I honestly cannot think of any complaints, I got a good price on it at a local chain store, and am getting a HUGE bang for my buck. Yamaha ROCKS!
