HDMI with 3D and Audio Return Channel
1080p HDMI with 3D and Audio Return Channel (6 In/ 1 Out), including one on Front Panel deliver crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video via a single cable, HDMI dramatically simplifies cabling and helps provide consumers with the highest-quality home theater experience. HDMI can provide an interface between most audio/video sources, such as a set-top box, Blu-ray player, DVD player, or AV Receiver and a video monitor, such as a High Definition Television (HDTV), over a single cable.
Audio Return Channel (ARC) is a distinctive 3D-ready function allows consumers to use a single HDMI connection to transfer digital audio from the TV back to the AV Receiver eliminating the need for a second cable between the TV and the home theater AV Receiver.
Front Panel HDMI Input
An HDMI terminal on the front panel makes it easy to connect a camcorder or digital camera. All of the HDMI terminals are compatible with 3D and CEC, making them convenient for connecting set-top boxes and Blu-ray disc players.
HD Audio with CINEMA DSP 3D
CINEMA DSP 3D provides a wide, high and dense sound field. HD Audio format decoding lets you enjoy HD Audio sources. Virtual Presence Speaker delivers 3-dimensional sound without actual use of presence speakers.
The actually measured sound field data contain the information of the height of the sound images. CINEMA DSP 3D mode achieves the reproduction of the accurate height of the sound images so that it creates the accurate and intensive stereoscopic sound fields in a listening room.
Analog and HDMI Video Upscaling to Full HD 1080p
This model is capable of outstanding upscaling and i/p conversion quality, This AV Receiver will upscale video signals up to 1080p. This means a much better picture with HDTVs capable of 720p, 1080i or 1080p resolution.
This model also features extremely precise motion adaptive and edge adaptive deinterlacing and multi-cadence detection (including 3-2 pull-down).
On-Screen GUI (Graphical User Interface)
This clean and simple interface makes setup and other operations extremely easy. The on-screen display can show album art, provides a choice of various languages and is visible over 3D images.
SCENE for One-Touch Start
The Four SCENE buttons make operating the receiver easier than ever. They are initially set to default settings for BD/DVD Viewing, CD Disc Listening, TV Viewing and Radio Listening. Pressing a SCENE button will automatically launch a number of operations that initiate play of the source controlled by that button. Other SCENE settings are also available, such as iPod Listening, SiriusXM Listening [model dependent], TV Sports Viewing and Action Game Playing. Browsing and selecting the settings is quickly accomplished by changing Input via the front panel and watching the on-screen display. The settings can be selected for one-time use, or they can replace the original default settings. The SCENE names can be changed also.
YPAO Automatically Sets the Best Sound for Any Room
Yamaha’s YPAO system uses a small microphone and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters, such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers and even the sound pressure level, etc. Until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room and you don't have to do anything!
Compressed Music Enhancer
When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. This function restores what was lost, so your music always sounds the way it should.

Very simple to set up, and must use an FM ant., along with the AM ant. Takes a while to figure out remote, but after that, can control pretty quickly. Instructions are poor at best, but does come with a dvd/cd instructional manual, using a laptop to read as you set things up is almost a must,(which I do not have!!).

Got the unit to upgrade video quality from Dish network. Was not disappointed the picture quality is fantastic. ( The Dish Family package which is the cheapest dish you can get and still get Fox News channel is broadcast in low resolution and hooks up through RCA jacks, the picture is horrible without the Yahama.

This is a very good receiver for the Home Theater enthusiast with experience. I stepped sideways from a Yamaha HTR-5640, which has worked flawlessly or 8 yrs. Technology had passed this unit by and I was in need of all the latest HD sound decoders and HDMI connectivity that my older unit did not have. This unit offered all I was looking for at a reasonable price. It does have a bit of a learning curve, which can be easily breached with prior experience in HTR. The initial setup is fairly straightforward and the YPAO calibration seems to work well for distances, but the levels are off by a bit. I ran it several times, getting varied results for distance and levels each time. This may have something to do with the odd room size I have, but I am not sure. After using the test tone to validate the levels, it did need some adjustment. The final distance I got seemed to be close enough that I left them as-is. The YPAO preset EQs were awful to my ears, so I adjusted the Graphic EQ to the settings from my old unit and everything sounds great now. I have this matched with my old Yamaha NX-430 speakers and a Yamaha sub from 8 years ago, and the sound is stellar. The new surround decoders are a huge step up from the last generation and the 3D sound-field generation is really incredible. The sound truly is warm and enveloping, LFE is full but not distracting at all. Both movies and music sound equally great to my ears, a feat not easily accomplished by HTR. Very pleased overall!

Plenty of power to spare! I have these hooked up to Klipsch Home Theater 500 speakers and couldn't be happier! My rears are Polk-Audio Monitor Series 2 to complement a 7.1`setup. Got a great bundle package from the local electronics store. All media sound great with this receiver! The only downside is the YPAO mic, which continues to give disingenuous wiring readings for its optimization results. You may find banana plugs might work better for you instead of hard wiring the speakers. Otherwise, its a pretty solid product from a reputable company with plenty of features.

My Yamaha R-V1105 has been and still is a great receiver. It hasen't shown its age one bit. It had no HDMI connections. With my old amp in such great condition and great performance, my only choice for replacement was another Yamaha. This new receiver is better in all respects. Oh, and the price was less then half what I paid for the R-V1105 about 15 years ago.

I purchased this product primarily for 5.1 surround sound with a new TV I recently purchased. The sound is awesome! This unit has plenty of power for a mid-size living room, I can feel the subwoofer shake the couch, and I am truly enveloped in sound. Very easy set-up with the YPAO calibration. One minor problem, after calibrating the speakers it indicated that my RF speaker was out of phase, but it was not, otherwise it would get 5 stars. It puts out excellent music as well, and the front USB port makes playing music from my iphone a breeze, and the on-screen control is fantastic, even displays album artwork.

I have 3 surround sound systems. My kids have their own small TV room for their friends and we have one in our family room. We also have a vacation home with a surround sound system. I spent top dollar on all my equiptment and the sound was never great. I thought I had bad speakers. To my suprise when I replaced 2 Onkyo's and one H/K 2600 with 3 new Yamaha A/V receivers the sound quality got better by 200%. We cannot believe the difference in clarity. In my openion, Yamaha puts out the best product for the money in the home theater industry.
