Technology
3D

Yamaha receivers displaying this icon support 3D HDMI® pass-through from 3D-compatible Blu-ray Disc™, game and broadcast devices to 3D-compatible HDTVs. 3D provides a more engaging audio and video consumer experience when using 3D-capable products and 3D media content. Note that special eyewear may be required for viewing 3D content.
HDMI®

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first and only industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. With the ability to deliver crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video via a single cable, HDMI dramatically simplifies cabling and helps provide consumers with the highest-quality home theater experience. HDMI can provide an interface between most audio/video sources, such as a set-top box, Blu-ray Disc™ player, DVD player or AV receiver and a video monitor, such as a high-definition television (HDTV), over a single cable.
Depending on the model of product, HDMI can support standard, enhanced or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It can support all currently-available compressed audio formats (such as Dolby® Digital and DTS) and most newer HDMI devices can support lossless digital audio formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™.
(View the specifications of each product for details on HDMI compatibility.)
Dolby® TrueHD

Dolby TrueHD is Dolby’s next-generation lossless technology developed for high-definition disc-based media. Dolby TrueHD delivers tantalizing sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master, unlocking the true high-definition entertainment experience on next-generation discs. When coupled with high-definition video, Dolby TrueHD offers an unprecedented home theater experience that lets you enjoy sound as stunning as the high-definition picture.
Dolby Digital Plus

Dolby Digital Plus: Dolby® Digital Plus is the next-generation audio technology for all high-definition programming and media. It combines the efficiency to meet future broadcast demands with the power and flexibility to realize the full audio potential of the upcoming high-definition experience. Built on Dolby Digital, the multichannel audio standard for DVD and HD broadcasts worldwide, Dolby Digital Plus was designed for the delivery formats of the future, but remains fully compatible with all current A/V receivers. With Dolby Digital Plus, you get even higher-quality audio, more channels, and greater flexibility. Amaze your ears.
Dolby Digital EX

This surround format from Dolby Digital includes an added center rear channel. The rear center channel is actually matrixed into the two rear channels, and is extracted upon playback. (Formerly called Dolby Digital Surround EX, or Dolby Digital Matrix 6.1.)
DTS-HD Master Audio™

DTS-HD Master Audio delivers sound quality that matches the clear and vivid images of high-definition video. Blu-ray Disc™ and HD-DVD deliver five times the video resolution of standard DVD and produce images with stunning realism. But that's only half of the story. You need incredible sound to complete the high definition experience and DTS-HD Master Audio provides the highest quality multi-channel sound possible. Movies come alive with sound as lifelike as the picture and music becomes as real as a live performance.
DTS NEO: 6

In this format, the back surround channel is matrix encoded into the left and right surround channels. For playback, the three channels are separately decoded.
Sirius Satellite Radio

A Sirius-Ready audio system lets you access your favorite SIRIUS Satellite Radio entertainment, including 100% commercial-free music, plus sports, uncensored talk, comedy, exclusive entertainment, world-class news and more, directly through your audio system with the use of an optional SIRIUS Connect Home Tuner kit. This product has a simple connector that allows you to plug the SIRIUS Connect kit and use the controls of this system to access all the content you want. Subscription and SIRIUS Connect Home Tuner (SC-H1) are required and sold separately.
8 Ch Ext Input

8 additional input jacks for discrete multi-channel input. Front (Left, Center, Right), Rear (Surround Left & Right, Surround Back Left & Right) and Subwoofer
CINEMA DSP Digital

Conventional multichannel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha CINEMA DSP is much more advanced, actually creating richly realized independent sound fields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects from ideally located in these separate sound fields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and startlingly realistic presence. It will seem as if the walls of your room have disappeared and you are in the middle of your own immense theater! The decoding circuitry performs Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-ES (DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 and DTS-ES Discrete 6.1), DTS Neo:6 and DTS 96/24 decoding with extreme accuracy, as well as all digital sound field processing.
SILENT CINEMA™

SILENT CINEMA makes it possible to hear large-scale surround sound through ordinary headphones! This is a variation of CINEMA DSP technology that Yamaha developed to let you listen in private to movies and other multi-channel sources for hours without listening fatigue.
Compressed Music Enhancer

Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms to enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3 and WMA. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life to be as close to the original as possible.
SCENE – A NEW LEVEL OF OPERATING EASE

Four SCENE buttons make operating the receiver easier than ever. They are initially set to default settings for DVD viewing, disc listening, TV viewing and radio listening. Pressing a SCENE button automatically launches a number of operations that initiate play of the source controlled by that button. Other SCENE settings are also available, such as iPod listening, XM listening, TV sports viewing and action game playing. Browsing and selecting the settings is quickly accomplished by changing Input via the front panel and watching the on-screen display. The settings can be selected for one-time use or they can replace the original default settings. The SCENE names can be changed, too.

YPAO™ Automatic System Calibration

Yamaha’s YPAO system uses a small microphone and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First, it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters, such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers and even the sound pressure level, etc. Until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room and you don't have to do anything!
Bluetooth

The Bluetooth® logo indicates that the product is equipped to use the optional YBA-10 Bluetooth® Wireless Audio Receiver that lets you connect the dock to the receiver and supports A2DP audio streaming. With the optional YBA-10 Bluetooth dock, you can enjoy music wirelessly from Bluetooth enabled mobile phones, portable devices, or personal computers.
(view the Specifications of each product for Bluetooth® dock compatibility)
Made for iPod and iPhone (Docking Station)

With the optional dock you can listen to your music and operate the iPod/iPhone via the product's remote control while at the same time charging the battery. Depending on your product's specifications, some will allow you to use the On-Screen Display feature on your video monitor to navigate your music. Overall this is a really solid receiver. But there is one problem, you can't turn off the OSD(On Screen Display) volume overlay. So if you want to watch a movie with subtitles and you change the volume you can't see the subtitles. Or even worse you have a friend or family member that is hearing impaired, the overlay blocks the captions every time you change the volume. If that isn't a problem then this is a good option and compares favorably against the onkyo tx-nr609 or pioneer vsx-1021-k.

Comments about Yamaha rx-v667:
I bought this to replace another receiver that had started to cut out during playback of my CDs. I use my receiver mainly for connecting my CD player, and also for listening occasionally to the TV audio. Several of the reviews mention ease of setup. However, not being an audiophile and it having been almost 14 years since I purchased my last receiver, I found the setup to be quite confusing and in fact mentioned to my wife that it would have helped to have an electrical engineering degree. I consider myself quite technically sufficient where computers are concerned, but that type of knowledge did me no good where this audio setup was concerned. I have to imagine that if you are an audiophile, or even more conversant with modern audio equipment, that this could be easy to setup. But for a non-audio proficient individual like me it was rather difficult. Let me mention that if there had been a paper instruction manual to hold and follow, rather than the back and forth from my computer to this unit, it would have been much easier as well. I do admit that most of the setup difficulties were probably due to my lack of audio expertise or knowledge.
Once hooked up, the receiver sounded fine.

Comments about Yamaha rx-v667:
Upgraded from an old Denon Receiver with no HDMI outputs. Easy setup for 7.1 but since I only have two speakers in the room where the receiver is located. I had to shut off the other speakers in 7.1 mode in order get the voice sound from the stereo speakers. No just stereo option on main setup. I love the OSD
