UniVolume™
UniVolume™ is a Yamaha-developed technology that maintains a consistent volume level between different channels, programs, commercials and input sources. For instance, when watching TV while using UniVolume™, the volume of commercials will not be louder than the program being viewed. The same is true when switching sources to watch a DVD or Blu-ray Disc™ movie or to listen to music on a CD. I have tried many other brands from a 5 speaker (Pioneer) to other soundbars (Samsung, Sony, etc..) and this unit is by far the best sounding and easiest to setup. I even hooked up the surround sound speakers from my old unit to the YHT-401S for complete surround sound and am blow away. the bass is thundering, even for being intergrated into the reciever. We have a large open floor loft and this unit made even our neighbors know what movies we were watching. ARC setup is the best once you tweak your setup for sound, then you can turn the volume up or down using your TV remote. My setup includes a 3D-HDTV, 3D Blu-Ray, XBox360, PS3 and this unit. Everything connected to this unit and it sounds GREAT coming out.

I recommended this system for my girlfriend. She wanted to reduce all the wires, speakers, componets in the living room. She had a low end suround system with five speakers and a sub woofer.
Pros: It really does sound nice. It is not going to rattle your windows but it is good for a small room. It did reduce many wires, and speakers. The girlfriend loves it. She says it sounds like the movie theater.
Cons: It does not fill the room with sound. The sound bar speakers are too close together it sounds uni-directional and that bugs me. The marketing stuff suggests that it is a surround system but it is more a L, C, R speaker system. It does not work like Yamahas high end sound bars. It does have powered outputs for rear speakers and you could add four seakers for a nice surround but the idea is to have just the sound bar.
This is great for people who want to reduce clutter but if you are picky like me you will find it lacking because of the directional sound. Perhaps Yamaha could add two speakers at the end of the soundbar pointing off to the side to fill the room better.

I use this system everyday which is hooked up to my main 55" Samsung LED TV and after setting it up to my sound preferences, I haven't touched the settings again. This speaker system is very easy to fine tune and being able to hook up my Ipod was a blessing. I like the size of the unit and the fact that the amplifier and sub woofer are built into the same unit. The only negative thing I have to say is that the speaker bar is a bit on the cheap feeling side being all plastic, for the price you are paying, but the great sound out of this unit makes up for that. Also would be nice if the remote was programable for your TV but I can live with that
