If You Love Music, Listen to the PROs

As the world’s largest musical instrument manufacturer and the leading choice of professionals for studio and concert gear, Yamaha knows better than anyone how to make your music sound its absolute best. Now you can enjoy the Studio Sound experience anywhere you go. PRO Series headphones go beyond just “powerful bass” to authentically reproduce any style of music. From Classic Rock to Hip-Hop, from Latin Jazz to Delta Blues, the PRO Series brings all your music to life. Your collection is waiting…
World-class Audio Quality

The flagship of Yamaha’s PRO Series line, the PRO 500 headphones enclose robust 50 mm drivers in high-grade, rigid aluminum alloy earcups to deliver the ultimate sonic experience. The drivers incorporate a new Yamaha-proprietary design featuring neodymium magnets that provide maximum efficiency when used with mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and other portable music players. The over-ear cup shape offers excellent noise isolation, while the ultra-premium ear cushion materials insure a crisp, clear sound.
Ultra-comfortable and Built to Last
Built to handle the rigors of everyday use without wearing you down, the PRO 500 features an adjustable, reinforced headband with ample padding textured for a pleasant feel. The band is shaped to apply just the right amount of pressure – snug enough to provide noise isolation, yet light enough for long listening sessions. Its ear cushions are extraordinarily soft and smooth, with a feel so natural you’ll never want to take it off.

Fuel-injected Design
Drawing inspiration from the world’s finest musical instruments and motorcycles, the PRO Series headphones get your heart racing before you even plug them in. Gorgeous geometry and ultra-clean design curves are matched with premium color and finish materials, and emblazoned boldly with Yamaha’s iconic tuning-fork marque, conjuring the power and energy of our high-performance supersport bikes. The PRO 500 is available in Piano Black and Racing Blue.

Versatile, High-performance Connectivity

The PRO 500 comes with two detachable, tangle-resistant flat cables: one in a 4 ft length with an in-line remote/mic, ideal for most mobile applications, and one in a 10 ft length for use in the home. Both cables are made from a material that is durable and designed to reduce “touch noise” transfer effects. The flat construction keeps the internal cores separated to minimize interference and terminates to a low-profile right-angle connector. The PRO 500 offers dual input/output ports, one on each earcup, providing flexible connectivity. A gold-plated ¼” adapter is included in the box for connecting to professional-grade audio equipment.
Control at Your Fingertips

The 4 ft cable includes an in-line remote/microphone optimized for use with Apple iPod, iPhone and iPad devices. The “+” and “-” buttons control volume for both music and phone calls, while the center button allows you to play/pause music, skip to the next song, skip to the previous song, or answer/end phone calls. The controller buttons provide a tactile click-response, enabling intuitive operation without need for visual reference. For non-Apple devices, control behavior varies due to differences in applications and pin configurations.
Take Your Listening Room With You

Engineered to move you and keep you moving, the PRO 500 folds into a compact size for traveling. It also comes with a semi-rigid protective carrying case. Plug it in anywhere and escape to an auditory utopia.

Great Sound, Poor Fit!

About Me Frequent Traveler, Gear Head
Pros
- Good Bass
- Great Sound
- Stylish
Cons
- Headband Too Large
- Heavy
- Squeezes Too Tight
- Uncomfortable
Best Uses
- Music
Comments about Yamaha pro_500_bl:
They are heavy on the head and are too big, I cannot adjust the headband any smaller so the ear cups rest all the weight on the top of my ears making them uncomfortable even for short periods of time. At first they squeezed too tightly as well but after a while of over stretching the band I was able to get them to soften up. The sound quality at least is amazing, worth the price for sound but very far off the price mark for comfort. Having amazing sound from headphones is pointless if you can't stand to wear them. I read in many reviews that comfort was an issue, but comfort is relative to the individual therefore I figured I would try them. These seemed to be designed for someone that has tall narrow head, if your head is shaped like Homer Simpson's then these are for you, but if you have a head like Stewie Griffin then find something else! It is apparent to me now, after reading other reviews and now owning a set, that these headphones were not designed with a variety of head shapes in mind.
As I stated previously, these sound amazing! You can hear every instrument and voice clearly and separately, it's not a jumbled mess of noise. The sound only improves when you use an amp (I own a Fiio E17) in conjunction with them, they love power. They seem to do well on blocking out external noise, but I have had comments from co-workers on sound leakage even at lower volumes but I think this is subjective to ambient noise in the area. I listen to a large variety of music, but so far my favorite jams on these headphones are: Styx-Come sail away & Queen-Bohemian rhapsody.

Comments about Yamaha pro_500_bl:
I live the sound and look.
But the fit is actually too large for my head.
My ears are either too high or the band does not go small enough.
I did have some issues with the iPhone cable fell apart when I caught it on something. Yamaha replaced it right away.
That said - they sound incredible and look amazing and are comfy for a medium to large head person.

Comments about Yamaha pro_500_bl:
The packaging really states quality. The heaviness of the box and the elegance of the packaging really portrays quality.
The sound quality is the best I have ever heard. When I first received the headphones I tried them in my RX-V673 receiver and was amazed with the quality. It was all there, the crisp high tones to the deep bass.
I am a frequent traveler and a heavy user of the Bose QC15 headphones as are most business travelers. The sound quality is far superior to the Bose QC15 that I am use to. When it comes to quality both construction and sound I think that Yamaha now has a better product.
One other feature that I really like are the controls built into the cord. This makes it really convenient to use the headphones with my iPod in my pocket while doing other activities. I wish that I would have had headphones with this feature years ago.

Comments about Yamaha pro_500_bl:
I was very anxious to hear these as Yamaha has not had a alternative to the many consumer offerings currently offered. I was definitely not disappointed the sound is even and clear perfect distribution of mids, lows and highs outstanding clarity I am hearing things in songs I have never noticed before in songs I have listened to all my life. These are bigger than expected and a little heavy but still comfortable around the ear for extended listening and the fold up feature makes for nice portability, excellent packing as well. 2 thumbs up for Yamaha!

Comments about Yamaha pro_500_bl:
I bought these with high hopes, and I'm really happy so far. I've used them in the gym, at home and on airplane trips. The sound quality is really great and accurate for music. A word of warning--they are pretty big, but they isolate outside sound really well, and really allow you to get lost in the music. I just recently listened to them on a cross-country flight, and they stayed on my head the entire time--they are REALLY comfortable. So far they seem durable--I've used them in the gym and thrown them in my backpack to take on trips. My biggest surprise so far is that I've taken to listening to music more on the weekends. These headphones really isolate you from the outside world and let you enjoy the music. Recommend.

Merchant response: Thank you FMColton for your feedback. Glad to see that you like the sound quality of the PRO500. As you mention, headphone fit is very personal, almost like shoes.
The weight of the PRO500 comes in part from the use of the aluminum ear cups which help to give it an expansive sound stage with lots of detail.
You might want to try out the PRO400. It’s also an over-ear model that sounds great and -- while about the same size as the PRO500 -- it is lighter weight so some people prefer it for comfort.
Many of our dealers have demo models available to try out in their stores. Thanks again.
