Zone Control
12V Trigger Out (Control Out)
The 12V trigger output can be used to automatically power on the components in Zone 2 when the main power is turned on. Output is a high 100mA, so relay operation is possible.
Remote (IR) 2 In/Out and Remote 2 In
These terminals let you connect an IR signal receiver for wireless remote control between the Main Zone and Zone 2.
Speaker A/B and A+B Selection
Enjoy music in a second room! Just connect a second pair of speakers to the Speaker B terminals and you can listen to either pair or both of them at the same time.
The Look and Texture of Quality
Offers the look and feel of the top-class A-S2000, with elegant aluminum front panel and silky touch volume/selector knobs. You can feel Yamaha's commitment to quality when you touch the knobs.
ToP-ART Sound Quality Design
ToP-ART (Total Performance Anti-Resonance Technology) design uses a symmetrical layout for accurate sound field reproduction and the ART Base to eliminate effects from external vibration.
Pure Direct
Music signals travel the shortest possible route, bypassing the buffer amp and tone, loudness and balance controls to virtually eliminate any signal degradation for the purest sound quality.
New Speaker Terminals
These high grade speaker terminals have silver plating for best connection and outstanding durability. The pitch between jacks is wider for easier insertion.
Highest Quality Parts
The quality of each individual part, as well as how they work together, basically determines the sound quality of any component. Yamaha uses only very high quality parts, carefully selected and tested.
Continuously Variable Loudness Control
Our ears lose sensitivity to high and low frequencies at low volume levels. This control lets you turn down the volume while maintaining the optimum frequency response.
Special Power Supply for Clear iPod Sound
The iPod dock has an independent power supply to prevent operating or charging current from the iPod from flowing into the amp ground signal. This ensures optimum iPod sound quality.
Balanced System for Minimal Noise
An unbalanced interface is subject to commonmode voltage noise, so Yamaha uses a balanced system to receive the iPod signal. This makes a significant contribution to reducing noise in the system for higher sound quality.

Comments about Yamaha r-s300:
I had a Yamaha CR620 Receiver that I bought in March of 1978. It finally died a month shy of its 35th birthday. Impressed with the Yamaha's longevity, I went looking for one to replace it. I wanted something not too complicated that would incorporate some modern technology but also play FM radio, turntable, tape deck, and CD player. I did some research on line and went to a dealer and asked about the r-s300. He said that would be the perfect replacement and he was right. I had no difficulty setting it up and it does exactly what I need it to do. It may be my imagination but the sound seems to be a great deal better than it was through the old receiver.

Comments about Yamaha r-s300:
It's a great receiver! Don't let the power rating fool you! It really caught the Yamaha charm. A lot of things on the front of this receiver are not standard features anymore. There are no video components run through it, so that stuff won't degrade the audio signal chain - great for using with a desktop PC and some bookshelf or floorstanding speakers.
"Loudness" is as simple as this: It turns the mids down; that's it - and a little goes a long way. The idea behind this is that using subtractive EQ is much better for ear fatigue than boosting Bass and (especially) Treble. Loudness also allows the audio to maintain a higher level of purity than boosting, which creates high and low frequency nodes. It also gives you more usable volume "throw" by allowing you to set your gain where you prefer to run your gear at.
Excellent components, fantastic build, I really liked the concept of this receiver - until the main selling point for me didn't really come through. I knocked one star off due to features, because I am really bummed that it doesn't have volume control for the sub out. I wanted to be able to turn my sub off via remote from across the room, the controllable features from the remote are a little basic.
I can have quick reference with the loudness control for flattening my mix and turning it up to see what it's going to sound like after someone does something similar in say, their car at low volumes. For some of my friends that went to the same audio production school I went to, I'd recommend this receiver to them regardless of price point, which says a lot!

Comments about Yamaha r-s300:
If you need a basic stereo system (and a home theater system would be overkill for your purposes), this is an excellent unit. I would like a few more inputs for modern things such as a USB or 3.5mm input for mp3 sources. I considered units with Bluetooth and additional inputs, but they all had output features that I simply do not need to run my small stereo system. It does allow me to use remote speakers in other parts of the house. I would also have likes an electrical output that would allow an additional source to be turned on/off with the remote (or the power switch). I am very pleased with this unit.

Comments about Yamaha r-s300:
This is my first new receiver in over 25 years. The set up was easy, the reception is great, even though we are in a bad reception pocket. I like to control the bass and treble, so this gives me that freedom. I like that I can preset my stations so I don't have to hunt for them.

Comments about Yamaha r-s300:
There aren't a lot of stereo receivers available in stores anymore so we were very happy to find this one. Paired with new Polk RtiA5 speakers the sound quality is great...very clear and crisp and accurate to our ear. The receiver has all of the options we need and the speaker connections are very solid. Controls feel very smooth. Not sure why the volume level displays as a negative number but that does not affect anything.

Comments about Yamaha r-s300:
I bought this to replace an OLD stereo receiver that had failed. I didn't expect to hear any difference, but when pushed it clearly had more headroom than the 60 watt/channel amp it replaced. Tuner seems to pull in all the stations I need. I usd this for basic music, and radio. Also use for my video editing and find the tape/in/out setup quite handy for importing and exporting.

- Yamaha trademark sound
Cons
Best Uses

Comments about Yamaha r-s300:
I just hope that compnaies like Yamaha continue to make plain old stereo units for a long time. I know people want to go with the whole Dolby surrround HD "sounds like your really there" type of unit these days but I tell you...If I didn't already have on old budget surround sound receiver in the living room, I'd just get something like the R-S300 and use the four speakers and that's it. I wouldn't even worry about having to have a center channel and all that junk. I like simplicity and I have no plans to ever run a mini movie theatre in my living room.
