Zone Control
Multi-Zone Compatibility
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to enjoy your favorite music in more than one room? The R-S700 has a number of specialized functions that make it convenient to use in custom installations. With another receiver or amplifier plus a pair of speakers in a second room, the people in both rooms can hear the music that is playing. You can even put a pair of speakers in a third room and listen there as well. What's more, you can control playback of the main system from the second room with the Zone 2 remote control.
12V Trigger Out (Control Out)
The 12V trigger output can be used to automatically power on the components in Zone 2 when the main power is turned on. Output is a high 100mA, so relay operation is possible.
Main/Zone 2 Power Link
When you switch on the R-S700 in the main room, the unit in Zone 2 will also come on.
Remote (IR) 2 In/Out and Remote 2 In
These terminals let you connect an IR signal receiver for wireless remote control between the Main Zone and Zone 2.
Speaker A/B and A+B Selection
Enjoy music in a third room! Just connect a second pair of speakers to the Speaker B terminals and you can listen to either pair or both of them at the same time.
Dedicated Zone remote Control
The R-S700 provides a second remote unit for controlling operation of the main system from Zone 2.
The Look and Texture of Quality
Offers the look and feel of the top-class A-S2000, with elegant aluminum front panel and silky touch volume/selector knobs. You can feel Yamaha's commitment to quality when you touch the knobs.
ToP-ART Sound Quality Design
ToP-ART (Total Performance Anti-Resonance Technology) design uses a symmetrical layout for accurate sound field reproduction and the ART Base to eliminate effects from external vibration.
Pure Direct
Music signals travel the shortest possible route, bypassing the buffer amp and tone, loudness and balance controls to virtually eliminate any signal degradation for the purest sound quality.
New Speaker Terminals
These high grade speaker terminals have gold plating for best connection and outstanding durability. The pitch between jacks is wider for easier insertion.
Highest Quality Parts
The quality of each individual part, as well as how they work together, basically determines the sound quality of any component. Yamaha uses only very high quality parts, carefully selected and tested.
Continuously Variable Loudness Control
Our ears lose sensitivity to high and low frequencies at low volume levels. This control lets you turn down the volume while maintaining the optimum frequency response.
Special Power Supply for Clear iPod Sound
The iPod dock has an independent power supply to prevent operating or charging current from the iPod from flowing into the amp ground signal. This ensures optimum iPod sound quality.
Balanced System for Minimal Noise
An unbalanced interface is subject to commonmode voltage noise, so Yamaha uses a balanced system to receive the iPod signal. This makes a significant contribution to reducing noise in the system for higher sound quality.
New Remote Controls
The R-S700 preset remote control is designed to make it easy to operate the receiver's many functions. The R-S700 provides a second remote that allows system control from Zone 2.

Comments about Yamaha r-s700:
I use my R-S700 to drive a small system in my bedroom. It is coupled to a pair of Klipsch Reference RB-52's & a small subwoofer. The sound is clear, precise and soundstage full. The sound is voiced as decidedly neutral - not warm & not clinically dry. My only complaint - and I hesitate to say complaint because I enjoy the unit so much - is that there is no bass management functions. I'm quite happy that there is a sub-out at this price point; however, it would be very hand to be able to manipulate crossover/low-pass point as well as sub volume from front control &/or the remote. As it is, I have to control these parameters directly on the sub - inconvenient, but far from a deal breaker.
I actually purchased this unit as a stand in while my reference pre-amp was out for repairs. It performed admirably in my reference audio system as well, which is why I decided to keep it to replace an older receiver in my BR system.
Two thumbs up, esp for the MSRP.

R-s700 Yamaha outperforms 4-channel

Comments about Yamaha r-s700:
Only one con: Nobody in town had banana plugs to fit, and manual did not give size for anyone to order them. Lucily, a call to an online electronics supply and they were quickly identified and in the mail.
Pro: This amp was our Christmas gift to ourselves and it is awesome, powerful, sounds great. Coming off an aged quadraponic system, we wanted to retain 4-speakers per room, and the Yamaha complies and makes them sound incredible!
It was easy to hook up a varety of components, including tape, CD, burner, turntable, MP3 unit and even a speaker switch unit for whole house capability. The receiver switch which monitors the ohm usage so no damage will result from a drop in ohms is a much appreciated feature. In one afternoon (once the ordered banana plugs arrived) full, defined sound was filling the house, with the switch of a button. The speakers sounded like anew.Listening was like being in a concert hall, with the Yamaha outperforming our quadraphonic predessor.

Comments about Yamaha r-s700:
This unit displays great "tonality," "musicality," "staging," and "timbre." I'm being sarcastic - I don't know what those words mean (they're used in audiphile magazines to promote a clubby atmosphere.) What I do know is that the Yamaha R-S700 performs flawlessly on the test bench and in real life with distortion figures that are nearly immeasurable and certainly inaudable except to perhaps Superman. The unit has a frequency response range wider than the hearing of any human I know. You don't even need to listen to it (or any modern receiver for that matter before you buy it; I didn't.) as the system's speakers and speaker placement have a far greater and measurable impact on audio reproduction. Comments about Yamaha r-s700:
I drive a pair of Paradigm Titan Monitors with a Marantz CD player and Pro-Ject turntable and occassionally an iPod. This is a secondary one room system in my house and I love it. My ipod through the Yamaha docking station doesn't sound as good on this unit as it does my RX-V3900 but that unit was $1300 more than the R-S700 so that's to be expected. I love Yamaha!

Flexibility and Control options

Cons

Comments about Yamaha r-s700:
I was pleased with the clean styling, flexibility, smooth sound, and control options. I use the FM, Line-input, Phono, and CD inputs.
My FM listening (24/7 classical) is on the edge of the signal coverage, so in STEREO mode I don't have full quieting. MONO mode is quiet and eliminates the wide-band white noise. Cannot review the AM reception, as I have high local noise level.
The audio line input from my HDTV is welcome and enhances my television viewing experience. The PHONO input was quite welcome and performs with smooth amplification, as I enjoy an extensive library of vinyl LPs.
It is convenient to have a separately designated CD input, easily selected remotely.

Comments about Yamaha r-s700:
I needed something to replace my 20 year old Yamaha integrated amp. Was afraid to go with a receiver but decided to go for it. I am very pleased with the product. I've had it a month now and it sounds great with my Klipsch speakers. Having to get used to the continuouis variable volume control (my old one didn't have that). I didn't want all the extras and this was as basic as I could find. It has plenty of power to drive my speakers and sounds great at all volumns. I have a cd player, cassette player and turntable hooked up to it. All sound great. Why did I wait so long to buy one?!

Comments about Yamaha r-s700:
Bought R-S700 as replacement for 20-year-old very good stereo receiver. Driving speakers in two rooms: pair of Focal 716s and a pair of Bose wall speakers. The R-S700 brings out more from both sets of speakers; more of what I call presence, like you're in the room with the musicians. I play mostly classical and choral music and am very pleased with the receiver.
