MCR-040 Micro Component System

The cool, colorful appearance is just the start of many things to like about the MCR-040. Compact and convenient, it lets you enjoy a variety of music sources, including iPod. And because it features Yamaha digital amp and YST technologies, the sound is much better than you would normally expect from a micro system.
Enjoy All Your Favorite Music
The MCR-040 puts your favorite music sources within easy reach. It's got a CD player, an FM radio, USB and mini jack inputs for portable audio devices, and a dock on top for an iPod, which you can control with the handy card-sized remote control. The iPod and USB device charge both while in use and in standby mode. What's more, it has both a clock timer and a sleep timer.
Perfectly Matched Amp and Speakers
Both the amp and speakers are designed for high efficiency and performance, so the sound is bigger and better than you expect from components of this size. They were also planned and carefully tested for best audio integration.

Technology
Made for iPod

The Made for iPod logo indicates that the product is equipped with the ability to connect your iPod to this product. With this feature you can listen to your music and operate the iPod via the product’s remote control while at the same time charging the battery on your iPod. Depending on your product’s specifications, some will allow you to use the On-Screen Display feature on your video monitor to navigate your music. Some products can even allow you to view your photos and movies from your iPod on your video monitor (view the Specifications of each product for iPod playback compatibility)...
USB

This unit is equipped with a USB port that allows you to enjoy WAV (PCM format only), MP3 and WMA audio files from a USB memory device (USB flash drive).
Advanced YST

Advanced Yamaha Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST) is a unique system in which the speaker and amplifier work together to cancel out impedance so the speaker unit has a perfectly linear motion. Advanced YST helps to ensure the highest levels of sound pressure and overall performance.
CD Text Display

Get information about the CD currently playing right on the CD player’s display. The 3-mode text display shows the CD’s title, the artists name and the title of the track.

Was looking for an Ipod dock, ordered one from another site, hated it. Found this one, love it. I don't know why I didn't think of this one first especially since all my other home audio products are Yamaha.

Comments about Yamaha mcr-040_orange__u:
This stereo has quite a few great features. Compatible with iPod/iPhone, CD, USB and mini-jack inputs. Construction and finish is first rate. Sound is very good- clear and deep. I just ordered my third unit, that's how much I like them. My first I have in a corner kitchen cabinet, the area also includes an open dining room. My second unit I put in my vacation condo which has an open living room/dining room/ kitchen, and the third is going in my finished basement. So, it can handle small as well as somewhat larger rooms.
The only con I would say is that if you misplace the remote, you won't be able to operate all the controls. You will still be able to turn the unit on and listen to FM/CD/iPod but you'll only be able to control the volume.

Comments about Yamaha mcr-040_orange__u:
I bought this because of past Yamaha performance and reputation. I also liked the look and design. The sound is average to good, but not of Bose like quality. I had wanted something that was cheaper than a Bose, but came close to the sound quality of a Bose. My other disappointment id with the iPod interface. The iPod dock is compatible with a number of iPod devices, but only the 5th gen. iPod nano is compatible. That is annoying because they are on the 7th generation at this time. I also bought a couple of 5th generation nano's, one was refurbished and one was used and neither worked with it. My son's and my 5th gen. did work on it however so it is tempermental. Overall I am satisfied, but not overwhelmed.

Comments about Yamaha mcr-040_orange__u:
My wife and I enjoy soft instumental music in the background of our home everyday, all day. This unit plays from morning when we get up till night when we go to bed. The sound is high quality, full and rich and balanced sound...crisp highs, smooth full lows and a beautifull balance across the full spectrum. Happy we made the choice! The other reviews we read didn't steer us wrong. Also we like the compact size. It replaced a much larger unit and we are more satisfied with the sound on this unit than the larger unit.

Comments about Yamaha mcr-040_orange__u:
Purchased this system after reading the reviews online and on Yamaha's website. I was looking for a small stereo for my home office that had an iPod dock but could also play the radio and CD. This system fit the bill perfectly. I had checked other systems locally and had considered going with a Bose iPod dock even though it wouldn't let me have a radio or CD functionality. I'm glad I found this instead! The sound from the speakers is rich and full, the ability to control treble and bass are nice. The option to have a USB port on the front is great as well as the option to move the speakers away from the main component for a truer stereo sound. The only weird part is the time is sent on a 24hr clock without a 12 hr feature, but I rarely use it. I'm very happy with this system!
