HDMI with 3D and ARC
1080p HDMI with 3D and Audio Return Channel (4 In/ 1 Out) deliver crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video via a single cable, HDMI dramatically simplifies cabling and helps provide consumers with the highest-quality home theater experience. HDMI can provide an interface between most audio/video sources, such as a set-top box, Blu-ray player, DVD player, or A/V receiver and a video monitor, such as a High Definition Television (HDTV), over a single cable.
Audio Return Channel (ARC) is a distinctive 3D-ready function allows consumers to use a single HDMI connection to transfer digital audio from the TV back to the AV Receiver eliminating the need for a second cable between the TV and the home theater AV Receiver.

It will seem as if the walls of your room have disappeared and you are in the middle of your own immense theater!
SCENE for One-Touch Start
The Four SCENE buttons make operating the receiver easier than ever. They are initially set to default settings for BD/DVD Viewing, CD Disc Listening, TV Viewing and Radio Listening. Pressing a SCENE button will automatically launch a number of operations that initiate play of the source controlled by that button. Other SCENE settings are also available, such as iPod Listening, SiriusXM Listening [model dependent], TV Sports Viewing and Action Game Playing. Browsing and selecting the settings is quickly accomplished by changing Input via the front panel and watching the on-screen display. The settings can be selected for one-time use, or they can replace the original default settings. The SCENE names can be changed also.
Compressed Music Enhancer
When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. This function restores what was lost, so your music always sounds the way it should.
Background Video Feature
Using this feature you can eliminate the audio from unwanted TV programs by playing your favorite music in the background instead. [background music sources vary by model].
Eco-Friendly Design
This model has a low standby power consumption (0.5W) and an Auto Power Down feature (selectable to 4, 8 or 12 hours) which help make this an environmentally friendly receiver

Compressed Music Enhancer

This is my 1st surround sound system, and it was a good choice. It sounds much better than most of my friends stuff.
Easily interfaces with all my stuff. My only gripe is that you can not mix HDMI and other inputs. They all have to be the same, and inputs must match outputs--no upscale.
I would also recommend if you are not tech savvy, hire someone to install and set up. The manual is not written for the average non-tech person

Great system for the money but after I replaced the front speakers with larger polk bookshelf speakers that I had from an older system it sounded much better. Also the system comes pre programed for 8ohms but the speakers are 6. You have to look deep in the instructions to figure out how to change it. I admit not sure what the difference would be.

I do like the product, and for the money I have to say once you get the bass set it really does sound well.
Some bad points, especially these days, it will not allow pass through unless powered on, and its worst point is, you must turn it on and off every time you switch from, any input mode, ie from TV to PC or to DVD it will not play sound untill powered of and back on, that is making me consider returning the product and getting a different brand.

I have this unit set up in my living room that has a angled ceiling..9ft at the north/south ends and about 17ft center and had installed places for the speakers on the walls that are at about 10' off the floor and thought that this would not be the best way to have them ...But Boy was I wrong , the sound is great out of this unit and once you get the remote and settings set this thing rocks !! I could read the instructions untill blue in the face on figuring out the set up prosess but then I just had the instructions handy on the computor and just started playing with the remote and then everything started to come together ! The Bass is set at just under 1/2 and wow is it great ! And having to be alowed to set the speaker distance on each speaker is also a great feature !!

It's a series of boxes within boxes. Be prepared for a day of sorting through a lot of cardboard and styrofoam. It eventually comes together, but it's not easy. I like to think I can assemble most electronics. The mechanics of hooking up various components is routine. The difficulty is understanding how to "program" the receiver to accept my TV, DVR, Blu-Ray, etc. It's trial-and-error. The written instructions are either too vague or too complicated. When I saw the CD/DVD in the box, I was hopeful it would be a visual step-by-step of how to assemble the entire system. It's not. It's simply the manual in PDF format, and it's not helpful.
If they could make this system more intuitive and perhaps even "plug and play", it would earn 5-stars from me.
Once I figured it out, and it was purely by chance that I pressed the correct sequence of buttons, the system sounds great. It's particularly great when watching Blu-Ray.
For the price, it's probably worth the hassle.

This is my first surround sound system and I am very happy with the sound in my 14 x 18 foot living room. The missing fifth star is because the remote is not universal; it turns the sound system on and off, allows selecting the input (I have it hooked up to my DirecTV DVR, HDTV and BluRay) and controls the volume. Each device has its own remote because I can't see paying $$$ for a Universal remote. I didn't realize that HDMI cables carried all of the info, so I have two toslink cables I disconnected once I read and understood all of the instructions. Follow the instructions and the setup is fine.
The biggest mistake I made was starting the system for the first time listening to the radio. I thought I'd messed up the hookup because I heard all kinds of static and noise, not realizing what poor reception I was getting with the supplied antennas. Once I turned on the HDTV, everything sounded great! Get a good antenna if you want to listen to the radio.

As my first theater system, this was a great choice. Set up was easy, no problems. As with other reviews found, the supplied speaker wire should be a better guage. Use 14 guage wire. Sub woofer is fantastic, you'll have to turn the volume down! A fantistic transformation from everyday 2 ch. sound, loving the surround sound. You can set the receiver to varying sound atmospheres like 8ft, 12ft. Also, crossover adjustments as well as other sound performance alterations, so if you can't find a setting that sounds great, you aren't trying! Connect your Blu-Ray and you have your own movie house. HDMI as well as component connections, so you can connect several devices. As this was my Christmas gift to myself, I believe I made a great choice, was considering Blu-Ray dvd theater systems. Go with an AV receiver like this one, you will be very glad you did!

Very disappointed that I couldn't link unit to other remotes. Was able to turn off only. I've read many online complaints about this,unfortunately after I'd set it up. You need to engineer one code or supply a remote that will better function with more accessories & FULLY function their operations. Overall I do like the unit & it's ability to connect many accessories.
