8-inch Driver and 100 Watt Amplifier
High amplifier power assures enough power to deliver movie theater-like bass effects, and the 8-inch cone driver translates the power into clear bass sound. The YST-SW012 has a frequency range of 28 to 200 Hz.
Magnetic Shielding
The subwoofer is magnetically shielded so it can be placed near a TV monitor or receiver without degrading the picture.
Volume Control
The volume control permits the perfect matching of the sub's output to the overall volume of the system.
Linear Port
The Linear Port provides smooth bass response during playback and minimizing extraneous noise.

I wanted a reasonably priced subwoofer for the living room of my apartment. I liked this one because of the smaller size. It is perfect for my apartment. Plenty of power. I had to turn it way down to keep from annoying neighbors. I would buy this again.

I have a small living room and this was perfect for the room size. 100 watts is more than ample here...haven't even cranked it up all the way (have next door neighbors and would like to keep my hearing intact). The sound is great.

I looked around and tested a lot of subs and I landed on 2 of these for my 7.2 system run by my RX-V673 receiver. These 2 subs beat out a lot of subs costing three times what I paid for 2 of these. 1 sub would be great for smaller rooms and 2 is great for larger spaces. They are great in both music and home theater applications. A lot of reviews will knock on these subs for their basic setup, but if you pair it with a receiver that handles the frequency and phase controls, it makes sense why Yamaha kept it simple.

At first, I thought this wasn't too much money and any bass would be better than none. This subwoofer is worth way more than the listed MSRP! I heard sounds in my favorite movies being picked up by the subwoofer that I had no idea existed. I hope it lasts as long as my RX-V367.

I frankly did not believe that this subwoofer would put out bass all the way down to 28Hz... not for the price they were charging - I was wrong. This thing sounds like it's considerably bigger than it is. For a mere 8" servo-driven sub, it puts out tight, accurate and deep bass. More than sufficient for our small space.

Overall, I like the unit. Used for home entertainment, primarily movies. Good bass output. It doesn't turn off automatically when receiver powers down (no signal sensing circuit). I'm still tuning the unit for when the bass kicks in. Sometimes when someone like a newscaster is talking, the bass kicks in intermittenly.
