Sub was bought to enhance my Yamaha YAS 101 soundbar and it does a great job. I was unaware, when I ordered, that I could control the bass volume with my 101 remote. What a great feature. I don't have the volume switch on the back of the unit turned past 4 and there is plenty of bass available. Would have liked an auto shutoff but am solving that with the 216 plugged into a remote controlled power switch. Otherwise it's a hassel to reach to the back of the unit to turn it off. The 216 is compact enough to blend in with the rest of the furniture and pretty much disappears visually which bodes well with my wife!

This is the 1st YAMAHA product I have purchased and overall am very pleased with how it adds to movie viewing and game playing. The sounds makes me wish I had purchased a sub woofer much sooner! I did not purchase it to listen to music so I cannot attest to whether it adds to music listening experience. I am very happy with my purchase.

A subwoofer should be your silent partner: not noticeable until really needed. My needs were not so much a subwoofer for musical reproduction, large front speakers do the job sufficiently well for most genres of music.
But blow up a battleship, crash a train, or use phaser cannons against the alien battleship, and the sub should swing into service, more felt than heard.
The YST-SW216 does this job ably in a in my medium sized media room. I am using it with a Yamaha AV receiver which includes technology that allows it to work with the subwoofer. Levels were easy to set and crossover points were easy to determine.
Bravo. An effective, unobtrusive sub at an affordable price point.
