The AEX1500 allows the player to explore new expressions in a jazz-orientated repertoire. On the one hand, its neck-mounted mini-humbucker reproduces those warm and mellow traditional archtop tones; on the other, the instrument carries a bridge-loaded piezo system for reproducing realistic amplified acoustic sounds. These two signal sources can be mixed together, offering an extensive palette of voicings and providing extensive tonal tailoring courtesy of the piezo's three-band EQ and adjustable (400Hz-2kHz) midrange.

Archtop guitars are boundless in time and tradition. There's just something about the classic look and that electric-acoustic sound that has appealed to all genres of musicians from country and rock to rockabilly and jazz. Yamaha crafts some of the finest archtops in the world – our artists have known this secret for years. The AEX1500 is a traditional archtop with a neck-mounted mini-humbucker and is complemented with a bridge-mounted piezo pickup to produce not only electric jazz sounds but also acoustic archtop sounds. Controls include a passive volume and tone for the neck pickup, an active 3-band EQ for the piezo, and a mix control for blending the two.

Comments about Yamaha aex1500:
Full body arch tops, with 0.13 strings, done that a few years, but it got too heavy to play, too different of the SA 2200 and other Yamahas and (other) famous brand guitars I own. Switching meant recalibrating too much. So I looked for a possibly as warm and recognizable tone as arch tops, but smaller body and better to play strings. All that is in the AEX 1500: warm classic jazz, modern fusion, smooth jazz, blues, you name it, it comes with the AEX. But, I found out that replacing the floating PU a little, underneath the 24th harmonic, improves the already good sound into a great sound. Easy to try, easy to achieve. I don't use the piezo much, but if, then it IS acoustic. Great invention.
