The CVP-609 digital piano is quite simply the finest Clavinova Yamaha has ever built. It's the perfect combination of piano touch, piano tone and its musical feature set that make it so remarkable. In addition to the NW(Natural Wood) keyboard with synthetic ivory keytops, the 88-key Linear Graded Hammers reproduces the unique weight of each piano key over the entire action. A GP Response Damper Pedal gives you the same sense of control and resistance as a grand piano. The RGE Sound Engine provides exquisite playing response and tremendous expressive power letting you to play however you want. The audio design has been reworked from previous models including an additional subwoofer so that during ensemble performance, the low tones of basses and kick drums are reproduced with even greater intensity. From professional piano performance to simply discovering the joy of music for the first time, the CVP-609 can fulfill anyone’s piano playing dreams.

Real Grand Expression - sound, touch and pedals -perfectly integrated to give you the sensation of playing a grand piano.

By harmonizing the three key elements of sound, touch and pedals in a single piano, the CVP-600 Series gives you the feeling that you are playing a grand piano.
Achieves grand piano performance…and more.

The RGE Sound Engine delivers the ultimate expressive capability.
The Clavinova uses the Real Grand Expression (RGE) Sound Engine,Yamaha's next-generation digital piano sound source. This lets you enjoy the playing response and expressive capability of a concert grand piano. It features a new Smooth Release function which uses a key-off velocity sensor to express note decay with great clarity, and clearly enunciates staccato notes with the resonance heard when lifting your fingers from the keys. RGE succeeds in capturing the essence of a piano performance to create grand piano-like, richly expressive experiences.

Subtly reproduces resonance with the depth you hear from an acoustic grand piano.
The Clavinova subtly reproduces even the unique elements of an acoustic piano. The String Resonance feature expresses the overtone series of strings above and beyond the actual notes you're playing. Key-Off samples actually deliver the delicate change in sound acoustic pianos make the instant the damper falls back to the string. The addition of these sounds results in a tonal experience that is not only beautiful, but also natural and rich.
Experience real piano touch with Yamaha’s Natural Wood keyboard.

The Clavinova NW (Natural Wood) keyboard could only be made by Yamaha, with woodworking techniques perfected from over a century of building fine acoustic pianos. Like a grand piano, the keys are made of solid wood that has undergone the long drying process required for use in a musical instrument. By selecting only the highest quality sections of each piece of wood, keys that are more resistant to warping and deforming than those of laminated wooden keyboards are created. The keys have three sensors, like the GH3 keyboard, that amplify sensitivity to the pianist playing them. Combined with the solid texture of wood, this provides an outstanding playing experience and performance.
Synthetic ivory keytops remain tactile during long performances.
Pianists enjoy a touch that clings firmly to their fingers, just like the ivory keyboards historically used in top-class pianos. Synthetic ivory keytops feature a soft, slightly porous surface that gives all keys added grip and natural friction for improved ease in playing, especially during long performances or practice sessions. The keys’ smooth, refined texture imparts a feeling of luxury and is easy to clean.
88-key Linear Graded Hammers reproduce a unique weight for each key, a first for digital pianos.
Each key in the Clavinova keyboard has a unique weight. On a traditional acoustic piano, the strings are short and narrow in the treble section and get progressively thicker and longer in the bass section. To produce an even sound, the hammers hitting the keys become larger from low to high. Thanks to the 88-key Linear Graded Hammers, this is the first digital piano to precisely recreate the keyboard touch of a grand piano where the weight, touch and return of every key is different. Since the experience is extremely close to that of a grand piano, you can achieve better playing technique.

The Hammers of all 88 keys have different weights.
The GP Response Damper Pedal provides an authentic grand piano pedal feel.
The damper pedal is an important piano-playing element because it continuously varies the sound as you press it down. The Clavinova provides acoustic piano behavior by constantly detecting the amount of pedal travel and finely adjusting the amount of note elongation and reverberation. Additionally, the GP Response Damper Pedal reproduces the typical grand piano feeling, for example less resistance when starting to press and a heavy feeling when the pedal begins to take effect. As a result, players achieve greater control when operating the damper pedal.

Personal Piano Room: your choice of piano and venue.
The CVP-600 Series offers a great new feature called Piano Room that you can use when you really want to concentrate on piano performance and savor your piano sound. You can select from four styles of acoustic pianos - Grand, Pop-Grand, Upright and Honky-Tonk - then you can select a performance location, such as concert hall, cathedral or stage. Instantly, the tone quality and acoustics change to match that piano and venue, giving your performance a totally different experience. When you're playing the Grand or Pop-Grand pianos, the tone changes even as you adjust the height of the virtual piano lid between fully opened or closed.
A wide variety of Voices for amazingly realistic instrumental sounds.

The CVP-600 Series provides many instrument Voices that go far beyond the traditional piano. Give songs you've played the same way for years a completely different character with the touch of a button.
Super Articulation 2 Voices reproduce performance effects, as if you are playing that actual musical instrument.
Yamaha’s Super Articulation Voices that provide genuine performance attributes of non-keyboard instruments are now supplemented by an even more extensive set of enhanced Super Articulation 2 Voices. SA2 Voices automatically add the nuances unique to each instrument. For example, legato, glissando and vibrato in wind instruments and the new SA2 Violin. Moving smoothly from Voice to Voice, you’ll achieve performances that sound like they’re naturally performed by a virtuoso of that instrument, instead of from the keys of a piano.
Play along with any number of virtual backing bands where you're the band leader.

Accompaniment Styles let you play along with virtual bands in numerous genres ranging from rock to country, pop and jazz. Change from hundreds of Styles and you can perform the same piece with a completely different feel.

Delivers powerful bass for greater enjoyment of ensemble performances.
The acoustic design has been reworked from previous models including an additional subwoofer so that during ensemble performance, the low tones of bases and bass drum are reproduced with even greater intensity. From professional piano performance to simply discovering the joy of music for the first time, the CVP-609 can fulfill anyone’s piano playing dreams.
Intelligent Acoustic Control provides a full, balanced sound with rich lows and clear highs, even at low volumes.
Volume adjustment is convenient for playing at home, where sometimes others may prefer you to play softly. You’ve probably experienced the fact that when the volume is low, it is difficult to hear treble and bass. On a Clavinova, however, the Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC) automatically adjusts the sound, so you enjoy proper sound balance even at low volumes. Additionally, the volume dial automatically makes fine adjustments to the overall sound of the speaker system (EQ) at low volumes. This ability to adjust volume without losing the rich and balanced sound is an exclusive Yamaha benefit, ensuring you always play with the utmost sound quality.
Yamaha's latest sound engineering technology, Acoustic Optimizer.
The Acoustic Optimizer system has been created to enrich and control resonance by physically adjusting the flow of sound waves, thanks to its design and positioning within the instrument. The combination of Acoustic Optimizer and digital technologies gives the CVP-600 Series an incredible expressive capability.

A piano appearance with the benefit of many advanced features.
When the key cover is closed, your CVP has the calm ambience of a piano. When it is open, you see an efficiently laid out control panel. CVP-609 features the traditional strong points of the CVP Series that let you explore new ways to enjoy music, along with the genuine expressiveness of a piano.

Comments about Yamaha cvp-609:
I upgraded from the CVP 509 as soon as the 609 came out. I love the instrument, especially the touch screen, which makes it a LOT easier to use. It's packed with features and yet it's simple to find what you want to do and explore features you may not have known were there before. The sound is great, although they removed some speakers and added another subwoofer. I had to reduce the bass of the piano sound to make it more realistic for my tastes. I really love the additional piano sounds they added, including an upright and a much-improved honky tonk piano. (Previous models sounded very fake to me.)
There are a lot more instruments available compared to previous models, including more Super Articulation 2 sounds, which are a blast to play. New sounds include various choir effects, some of which are nearly indistinguishable from an actual choir. Additional accompaniments are fantastic-sounding and make me feel like I'm playing with band leaders like Doc Severinsen.
My chief complaints with the instrument are not about the quality of the sound or the experience playing, but with the fact that Yamaha made some design choices with the cabinet that aren't to my liking, though they may be to yours. The black walnut (least expensive) finish looks inexpensive, even compared to the rosewood finish of previous years. Little touches present on the 500 series are absent. The 509 has brass accents around the feet of both legs, adding a luxury furniture feel; the legs of the 609 are plain. The 509 has brass pedals and a brass hinge; the 609 uses chrome. The 509 features a durable, brass-looking metal finger grip along the edge of the lid to make it easy to open and close; the 609 has merely a cheap-feeling (like rough fiberboard?) edge that seems like it will wear down over time or give me a splinter; The 509 has a brass, engraved Clavinova logo mounted flush on the music stand; the 609 has the Yamaha name painted on the cabinet and is mostly hidden when the lid is open during play; the 509 featured a heavy, adjustable height artisan bench with storage while the 609 includes a double width, non-adjustable bench with storage that, again, looks and feels like a low-quality product; the 509 uses the same rosewood (or other matching finish) paneling along the control panel; the 609 is a flat plastic panel without any accents.
I am disappointed that the cabinet, as a piece of furniture in my living room, seems to be of a much lower aesthetic quality than I would expect for an instrument that costs as much as this does. As soon as I can, I'll upgrade to the polished ebony or mahogany finish. Perhaps the cheap looking finish is Yamaha's way of encouraging people to upgrade to the even more expensive finishes.
As a musical instrument and a learning tool, the Clavinova is tough to beat. I find myself looking for excuses to play it, even while I'm waiting for dinner to cook. I'm impressed with the new features they add with every generation and, if you like the new cabinet (or at least don't mind it), you'll be enjoying the Clavinova for years to come!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
