CVP-609 Digital Piano

The Clavinova uses the Real Grand Expression (RGE) Sound Engine,Yamaha's next-generation digital piano sound source. This lets you enjoy the playing response and expressive capability of a concert grand piano. It features a new Smooth Release function which uses a key-off velocity sensor to express note decay with great clarity, and clearly enunciates staccato notes with the resonance heard when lifting your fingers from the keys. RGE succeeds in capturing the essence of a piano performance to create grand piano-like, richly expressive experiences.

The Clavinova subtly reproduces even the unique elements of an acoustic piano. The String Resonance feature expresses the overtone series of strings above and beyond the actual notes you're playing. Key-Off samples actually deliver the delicate change in sound acoustic pianos make the instant the damper falls back to the string. The addition of these sounds results in a tonal experience that is not only beautiful, but also natural and rich.

The Clavinova NW (Natural Wood) keyboard could only be made by Yamaha, with woodworking techniques perfected from over a century of building fine acoustic pianos. Like a grand piano, the keys are made of solid wood that has undergone the long drying process required for use in a musical instrument. By selecting only the highest quality sections of each piece of wood, keys that are more resistant to warping and deforming than those of laminated wooden keyboards are created. The keys have three sensors, like the GH3 keyboard, that amplify sensitivity to the pianist playing them. Combined with the solid texture of wood, this provides an outstanding playing experience and performance.

Pianists enjoy a touch that clings firmly to their fingers, just like the ivory keyboards historically used in top-class pianos. Synthetic ivory keytops feature a soft, slightly porous surface that gives all keys added grip and natural friction for improved ease in playing, especially during long performances or practice sessions. The keys’ smooth, refined texture imparts a feeling of luxury and is easy to clean.

Each key in the Clavinova keyboard has a unique weight. On a traditional acoustic piano, the strings are short and narrow in the treble section and get progressively thicker and longer in the bass section. To produce an even sound, the hammers hitting the keys become larger from low to high. Thanks to the 88-key Linear Graded Hammers, this is the first digital piano to precisely recreate the keyboard touch of a grand piano where the weight, touch and return of every key is different. Since the experience is extremely close to that of a grand piano, you can achieve better playing technique.

The damper pedal is an important piano-playing element because it continuously varies the sound as you press it down. The Clavinova provides acoustic piano behavior by constantly detecting the amount of pedal travel and finely adjusting the amount of note elongation and reverberation. Additionally, the GP Response Damper Pedal reproduces the typical grand piano feeling, for example less resistance when starting to press and a heavy feeling when the pedal begins to take effect. As a result, players achieve greater control when operating the damper pedal.

The CVP-600 Series offers a great new feature called Piano Room that you can use when you really want to concentrate on piano performance and savor your piano sound. You can select from four styles of acoustic pianos - Grand, Pop-Grand, Upright and Honky-Tonk - then you can select a performance location, such as concert hall, cathedral or stage. Instantly, the tone quality and acoustics change to match that piano and venue, giving your performance a totally different experience. When you're playing the Grand or Pop-Grand pianos, the tone changes even as you adjust the height of the virtual piano lid between fully opened or closed.

The CVP-600 Series provides many instrument Voices that go far beyond the traditional piano. Give songs you've played the same way for years a completely different character with the touch of a button.

Yamaha’s Super Articulation Voices that provide genuine performance attributes of non-keyboard instruments are now supplemented by an even more extensive set of enhanced Super Articulation 2 Voices. SA2 Voices automatically add the nuances unique to each instrument. For example, legato, glissando and vibrato in wind instruments and the new SA2 Violin. Moving smoothly from Voice to Voice, you’ll achieve performances that sound like they’re naturally performed by a virtuoso of that instrument, instead of from the keys of a piano.

Accompaniment Styles let you play along with virtual bands in numerous genres ranging from rock to country, pop and jazz. Change from hundreds of Styles and you can perform the same piece with a completely different feel.

Given the vast palette of Voices and Styles to choose from in a CVP, Music Finder is useful when you just can't seem to find the right ones for a particular song you'd like to perform. Simply choose from a list of song titles, and Music Finder calls up a virtual backing band, sets the tempo and gives you four ideal right-hand Voices called One Touch Settings. Play the first Chord with your left hand and the Style automatically starts. Music Finder lets you spend more time playing keys and less time pushing buttons.

Style Recommender quickly finds suitable accompaniments based on what you play on the keyboard. You can play the piano, pound out a drum beat or just tap a simple rhythm pattern on one key. The Clavinova narrows hundreds of Styles down to the 8 best matches so you can start making music fast.

Guide lamps above each key show you the correct notes to play and waits until you play them, so you can learn and practice at your own pace.

Plug in an optional microphone and you can sing along while you play, while someone else plays, or while the Clavinova plays itself. You'll be the life of the party with karaoke-style vocal effects like reverb, chorus and echo.

Sing along with the karaoke song file library stored inside your Clavinova or download more from the internet. Song lyrics are shown on the display* and the words are highlighted to the beat so you know exactly when to come in. Connect the CVP to your TV screen for lyric display at your party and everyone can sing along!

Pro-quality background singers put you center stage at your in-home Karaoke party. Vocal Harmony 2 (VH2) offers advanced sounding harmonies and also provides matching stereo effects like Delay or EQ. There's even a pitch correction mode where regardless of the note you sing, the correct note comes out of the Clavinova's speakers!

Volume adjustment is convenient for playing at home, where sometimes others may prefer you to play softly. You’ve probably experienced the fact that when the volume is low, it is difficult to hear treble and bass. On a Clavinova, however, the Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC) automatically adjusts the sound, so you enjoy proper sound balance even at low volumes. Additionally, the volume dial automatically makes fine adjustments to the overall sound of the speaker system (EQ) at low volumes. This ability to adjust volume without losing the rich and balanced sound is an exclusive Yamaha benefit, ensuring you always play with the utmost sound quality.

The Acoustic Optimizer system has been created to enrich and control resonance by physically adjusting the flow of sound waves, thanks to its design and positioning within the instrument.
