As the "speaker" of the piano, the soundboard ultimately determines the resultant volume and tone quality of the instrument. Yamaha has carefully redesigned the contour and dimensions of both the soundboard and the ribs optimizing the freedom and response of the piano.

In order to better integrate the braces with the soundboard, ribs and the piano rim, the design has been improved. Among the new features are the increased mass of the back beam, located behind the key bed, helping to provide a stronger, more unified structure to generate a more sustained and powerful sound.

By featuring a new type of music wire in the C3XA, the piano has a capacity for a wonderful clarity of tone and a highly present sound across the entire range of the instrument.

The newly designed music desk features a distinctive open look, while minimizing the traditional interference of the music desk with the player’s appreciation of the sound as the piano is played.

These features along with others, all contribute to a new approach to piano design and construction resulting in a piano capable of the range of volume, expression and radiance sought after by every pianist.
