This material is commonly used for intermediate and professional trumpets because of its warmer tone. A higher copper content in the material produced a rich, resonant sound giving beginning students extra confidence in their playing.

Many beginning trumpet students suffer from a lack of focus rather than a lack of volume and projection. By using the medium large bore size (.459") the Advantage trumpet give beginners the 'advantage" of improved tonal focus. This ML size is also vertically integrated from the professional and intermediate Yamaha trumpets giving students a consistent size and feel as they progress through the line of Yamaha trumpets.

The additional storage room in the Advantage case provides the student with all the necessary room to store music, lesson books and the necessary trumpet accessories all without any possible damage to the instrument itself. This is achieved by creating a space below the instrument so the music can simply slide beneath the instrument inside the case.

The construction of all student level trumpet bells is what is commonly referred to as a two-piece construction. The final 'flair' of the bell is one separate piece from the stem of the bell. Traditionally in musical instrument manufacturing to attach these two pieces the manufacturer would overlap them creating a seam both visible to the eye and twice as thick preventing the metal from resonating properly. Yamaha has overcome this problem with a technique called pluzuma welding whereby the two pieces of a student trumpet bell are fused together rather than overlapped and welded.

This feature gives the beginning student a greater control over the intonation of several particularly difficult notes to play in tune. All professional and intermediate level instruments have this feature, so a student learning on a trumpet without a first valve thumbhook would likely have a more difficult time adjusting to a new instrument.

The leadpipe of a trumpet is a common area where corrosion can take place. By using a material called gold brass (85% copper and 15% zinc) Yamaha student trumpets are very resistant to this type of corrosion.
