BUENA PARK, CA (November 19, 2004) — Philadelphia's University of the Arts and Yamaha Drums marched to the beat of new innovations in electronic percussion at a day-long clinic, "DTXplosion," October 23. Drummers converged on UArts to be part of a day of demos, workshops and performances featuring Yamaha's DTX Series electronic drums, with special guests Akira Jimbo, Tony Verderosa and Marvin McQuitty.

"DTXplosion was an amazing day," says Marc Dicciani, director of the School of Music at the University of the Arts, who also performed. "The event was a unique educational opportunity in that it gave musicians of all ages and interests a chance to see some incredible players and try out some of the latest drum technology."

The day also included giveaways, with a DTXPRESSIII and monitor system as the main prize. Demo rooms set up by Yamaha, Medley Music and Sam Ash Music allowed visitors to try out and purchase gear.

"The main purpose of DTXPLOSION was to showcase how digital drums can be used in teaching, practice, worship, the recording studio and live performance settings," says Dave Jewell, marketing manager, Yamaha Drums. "Marc demonstrated the educational angle and Marvin handled the church market, while Tony and Akira showed how to incorporate electronics with acoustic drums."
