BUENA PARK, CA (December 23, 2005) — Presented by the Mayor’s Office of the District of Columbia and the National Music Center Foundation, “The Gig” is a fun wintertime showcase for the D.C. area’s exciting variety of music, highlighting the positive impact and power music has in bring people together. The two-day event will be held Monday and Tuesday, December 26-27 from 12 noon to 4:00 pm at The City Museum.

Winter Festival
The Gig was designed and created to honor the power that music brings to bridging cultures. Music excites, inspires and entertains. Music is all around us – ubiquitous; a part of our everyday experience. Everyone has his or her favorite kind of music: Pop, Jazz, Classical, Country & Western, Reggae, Calypso, Blues and the many Latin flavors. Yet, people aren’t aware of all the ways they are affected by, or can become involved with, music, not just as audiences, but as creative participants. The Gig is a multicultural excursion into, and celebration of, the many styles of music in and around the Washington, D.C.-area.

This first multicultural festival will offer a series of interactive, hands-on experiences including free guitar and piano playing lessons, instructions in how to deejay, and writing hip-hop lyrics. All instruments have been provided by Yamaha Corporation of America.

The winter festival will also feature a series of live music performances. In addition to Yamaha Corporation of America, other sponsors include: The Mayor’s Office of the District of Columbia, InTune Foundation, The Downtown BID Corporation, D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities, Historical Society of Washington, D.C., Shaw Main Streets, The Federal City Council and the National Music Center Foundation.
