BUENA PARK, Calif. — Yamaha Corporation of America has joined forces with SupportMusic.com to stand united with the growing coalition in its efforts to strengthen music education programs throughout the United States.

"We are honored to join SupportMusic.com and our colleagues in the coalition deeply committed to this cause," states Rick Young, vice president/general manager, Band & Orchestral Division, Yamaha Corporation of America. "SupportMusic.com is a strong and consistent voice in shaping the integrity of our nation's music education programs. Yamaha looks forward to helping build upon its vital mission to keep music programs alive in our public schools."

Young noted that Yamaha has a long and dedicated history of support to music education. Globally, Yamaha has established music schools in Japan and in more than 40 countries and regions around the world. These schools are currently offering more than 770,000 students of all ages and abilities a range of tailored courses that teach them a love of music.

The SupportMusic.com affiliation introduces Yamaha to a united coalition made up of other like-minded businesses and non-profit music organizations that regularly defend every child's right to a well-rounded public music and arts education. The success of the coalition is marked by motivated members who regularly conference and step into action when called. Members actively influence legislators, school boards and communities, while enlisting the help of key national and local grassroots organizations in the fight to keep music education strong.

"Keeping school music programs strong requires a diverse coalition of business, non-profit, arts and civic organizations all working together," states Joe Lamond, president and CEO, NAMM, the International Music Products Association. "As a leader in school music education for many years and longtime NAMM member, Yamaha is a welcome addition to this growing group who are working tirelessly everyday with local communities to ensure that every child has the right to experience music as part of their education and development."

In the United States, Yamaha Corporation of America recently established the Institutional Commercial Services department under the Music Marketing Group, which embraces a "One Yamaha" approach to Yamaha's school and commercial business.

The company's Band & Orchestral Division is the driving force behind such programs as the Yamaha Young Performing Artists (YYPA) concert series, and Sounds of Summer camps, which Yamaha conducts in partnership with its music retailers. The division plays a significant sponsorship role in Bands of America, Drum Corps International, Youth Education in the Arts, and the International Association of Jazz Educators. Yamaha Corporation of America is also a founding member of the annual "Best Communities for Music Education" survey, a national campaign designed to identify and recognize school districts that consider music education integral to a quality education.

"I wouldn't be where I am today without the music education I received growing up," says Yamaha Performing Artist and contemporary jazz saxophone innovator Dave Koz. "Now more than ever, it's vital to keep these programs alive in our schools, not only for the great music skills they provide to kids, but also for the important social and communication skills they offer. I applaud my friends at Yamaha for once again stepping up to the plate and showing how much they value education by joining this very important coalition."

Launched by the Music Education Coalition (an entity formed by NAMM, the International Music Products Association and MENC, the National Association for Music Education), SupportMusic.com now comprises 100 music and arts organizations that represent close to seven million individuals. Musicians have also come aboard to support the cause, including the Goo Goo Dolls, Bob McGrath and Will Turpin of Collective Soul.
