"Fearless" Yamaha Horn Player Jeff Nelsen Accepts Appointment at Indiana University

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Yamaha artist and world-renowned horn player Jeff Nelsen was recently appointed Visiting Associate Professor of Horn at the esteemed Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Recognized for both his positive and bold teaching mindset, Nelsen has a successful track record as an educator. He has held faculty positions at the University of Toronto, McGill University (Montreal, Quebec), University of Victoria (Victoria, British Columbia) and the University of British Colombia, and was a private coach in New York City last year. Nelsen's clinics and master classes have brought him to leading conservatories and concert halls in Europe, Asia and North America. His book "Fearlessness Auditioning," due out this year, reveals how his unique concepts on auditioning and performing can be easily learned and wielded by anyone.

As an artist, Nelsen spent over four years with the Canadian Brass before going solo. While performing with the world famous group, he was featured with the New York Philharmonic (Brass), Philadelphia Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic and numerous symphony orchestras including Atlanta, Baltimore, Detroit, Houston, Minnesota, Seattle and St. Louis.

The internationally acclaimed artist has also held positions in the Montreal, Vancouver and Winnipeg symphony orchestras. As an orchestral performer, Nelsen has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, The Kennedy Center's National Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Center Orchestra (Ottawa, Ontario) and the Canadian Opera Company.

A sought-after guest musician by festivals and artists around the world, Nelsen has performed at Ravinia, Tanglewood, Blossom and St. Barth's music festivals. He also toured with such names as Michael Bolton, Donny Osmond and Barry Manilow. He has recorded extensively for labels including Sony, Warner, Blue Note, London/Decca, Disney, C.B.C., Summit and Opening Day Records.
