LA MIRADA, Calif. — The Yamaha Music Education System hosted an energizing three-day camp in late July on the campus of Biola University in La Mirada, California. Attended by North America's finest young musicians, the event was designed to hone music skills, as well as to complement, augment and inspire the participants' ongoing studies at their local Yamaha Music School.

The Yamaha Music Camp culminated in the exciting Yamaha National Junior Original Concert 2008 where 14 Yamaha Music School students performed their original compositions with the Yamaha Young Musicians Ensemble, under the direction of Vanja Nikolovski. A capacity audience filled Crowell Hall and warmly and enthusiastically received the performances of the students, ages 7-14.

During the camp program, young musicians also attended piano and keyboard ensemble performance clinics, along with improvisation clinics.

Its philosophy is two-fold: to teach children how to play instruments and learn how to study music. The program is geared toward developing fundamental musical ability and creativity, enabling students to express themselves through the language of music.
