ALBUQUERQUE, NM—Internationally acclaimed pianist Olga Kern will be presenting the North American premiere concert featuring the new handcrafted Yamaha CFX 9' Concert Grand piano with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra on April 7th. The program, to be conducted by Guillermo Figueroa, will feature Ms. Kern playing Franz Joseph Haydn's Piano Concerto in D Major and Franz Liszt's Totentanz. Ms. Kern returns to the NMSO as one of the most popular guest artists of the last several seasons. Called "a pianist with an empress-like control over every note and phrase... a true interpretive genius," by the Chicago Sun-Times, Ms. Kern promises to present an exciting debut for the groundbreaking CFX.

The 9' CFX full concert grand, which replaces Yamaha's acclaimed CFIIIS concert grand piano, was launched in January 2010. In addition to drawing on its 108-year heritage of manufacturing the world's finest pianos, the instrument represents 19 years of research and development conducted by Yamaha craftsmen, designers and engineers to create this extraordinary handcrafted piano. The process culminated with a series of top-secret, in-depth evaluation sessions conducted in New York, Paris and Tokyo with top artists and Yamaha artist services over the last few years. Most recently the CFX was played by Claire Huangci at the National Chopin Competition in Miami, FL, where she won First Prize.

The concert will be presented at Popejoy Hall on April 7th, 8th and 9th. For more information write the New Mexico Symphony Box Office, 4407 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110, telephone 505-881-8999 or 800-251-NMSO, or visit the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra's website.
