Trademark Guideline

These Guidelines govern the use and reproduction of all Yamaha trademarks. Yamaha Authorized Dealers and others with permission may use Yamaha's trademarks and logos strictly in accordance with these Guidelines. Use of Yamaha trademarks and logos other than in accordance with these Guidelines is a violation of Yamaha's rights and is strictly prohibited. Yamaha reserves the right to revise these Guidelines from time to time, without notice.

IMPORTANCE OF YAMAHA NAME AND TRADEMARKS

The Yamaha corporate name, Yamaha logos, and other Yamaha trademarks and service marks (collectively, the "Yamaha Marks") are among the most critical elements of Yamaha's identity and convey many aspects of our business. The Yamaha Marks are widely recognized, positive industry symbols, and can be a very effective way to highlight your commitment to high-quality products.

Yamaha sells a variety of musical instruments, professional products and electronic equipment, and has many names for its products and services ("Yamaha Products"). Strong brand names help to create stronger customer commitment. When talking about Yamaha Products, it is important to do so in a consistent manner and to associate the product name to the Yamaha brand to reinforce brand identity.

The Yamaha Marks are available for use by Authorized Dealers as permitted in their agreement(s) with Yamaha, and on a case-by-case basis as approved in advance by Yamaha. This document provides the basic style guidelines to ensure consistency.

REQUESTS FOR USE

Yamaha Authorized Dealers wishing to use the Yamaha Marks other than as permitted in their agreement(s) with Yamaha and others interested in using Yamaha Marks for appropriate marketing and educational purposes should submit the "Request to Use Yamaha Trademarks" to the Marketing Manager for the appropriate Yamaha Division. All requests for use of Yamaha Marks will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Yamaha will also review actual usage of the Yamaha Marks on a case-by-case basis.

YAMAHA LOGOS

The Yamaha Marks that are graphic logos ("Yamaha Logos") are the visual representations of the organization, and represent Yamaha and its standards in a unique way to customers and to the public. As symbols, the Yamaha Logos are a prime vehicle for establishing presence and identity.

Where you permissively use both your own unique company identifier(s) or graphic style along with Yamaha Logos, your business identity must be presented in the dominant style, always larger than the Yamaha Logos. In addition, the Yamaha Logos must be separated from and presented as a separate and distinct element from any other mark or information.

Examples of Correct and Incorrect Usage of the Yamaha Logos are shown in the photographs below:

YAMAHA LOGOS

Only use Yamaha Logos obtained from Yamaha; do not re-design Yamaha Logos. You can obtain Yamaha Logos from The Ad and Creative Services Division of Yamaha Corporation of America, at 6600 Orangethorpe Avenue, Buena Park, CA 90620, or by email addressed to: requestforlogos@yamaha.com.

PROPER USAGE OF YAMAHA TRADEMARKS AND LOGOS

Unless you have express, prior written permission from Yamaha:

Do not use Yamaha Marks as all or part of a product name or in or on any product, packaging, labels, advertisements, press releases, marketing materials, domain names, web pages, trade show materials, or any other materials. The word "Yamaha", or an appropriate Yamaha mark may be used as part of a webpage address that points to the underlying Yamaha-branded product, provided such usage otherwise complies with these guidelines.

Example:

Correct:
http://www.paulspianoshop.com/disklavier (provided this page contains Yamaha® Disklavier® pianos, and dealer is authorized to advertise such pianos)
Incorrect:
http://www.paulsyamahapianos.com (uses "Yamaha" as part of the domain name, which is not permitted)

Do not use Yamaha Marks in any manner that might be understood to suggest an association with or sponsorship by Yamaha, nor an endorsement (express or implied) by Yamaha of any product, service, or entity. However, Yamaha Marks may be used as part of a truthful statement that a company is an "Authorized Yamaha Dealer."

Example:

Correct:
Dwayne's Drum Shop, the Superstore for Yamaha® Drums
Incorrect:
Dwayne's Drum Shop Yamaha® Superstore

Do not attempt to claim trademark rights in any Yamaha Mark by using or registering a Yamaha Mark as all or any part of a product or service name, trademark, service mark, logo, trade name, or "doing business as" name (d/b/a).

Do not use Yamaha Marks in any fashion that could result in a likelihood of confusion between Yamaha goods and services and the goods and services of any other entity.

Always use Yamaha Marks consistently and distinctively, distinguishing our marks from other words in the text in some way. This distinction includes capitalizing all letters in the trademark, using initial caps or initial caps with quotation marks, using italics, boldface, underline, color, and use of the ® or ™ symbols, as appropriate (see below). Do not abbreviate trademarks or use only a portion of a mark.

Do not refer to a product as being "Yamaha compatible," or "Yamaha-Authorized," except with prior written permission from Yamaha.

Trademarks are adjectives, and must only be used as such, e.g., a Yamaha brand piano. Yamaha Marks should never be used as nouns or verbs, nor should marks be pluralized or used in the possessive form.

Example:

Correct:
YAMAHA® pianos come in a variety of styles.
Incorrect:
Disklaviers® come in a variety of styles.
