Yamaha Bass Playing With Dolls

"My sound straight out of the bass seems to have all of the drive and rumble I’ve always enjoyed," says Takac, "with more of that ‘elusive clarity’ my soundman had been complaining about for over a decade!"

Becoming one of the most popular adult alt-rock bands of the latter half of the 1990s, the Goo Goo Dolls originally started with humble beginnings. Formed in Buffalo, NY in 1985 by guitarist/vocalist Johnny Rzeznik, Takac and drummer George Tutuska, the name was chosen from an ad in the tabloid True Detective. Their debut album, 1993’s Superstar Car Wash, got the band noticed and earned critical acclaim. Soon, the Dolls were contributing tracks to hit movies like Twister, Tommy Boy, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. It was the City of Angels soundtrack, with the GRAMMY-nominated single "Iris" that sent the Goo Goo Dolls through the roof of the Billboard charts, and record sales into the millions. Their 1998 release Dizzy Up the Girl produced the radio staple "Slide."

The Goo Goo Dolls continue their winning streak – and GRAMMY nominations – with recent albums (What I Learned About) Ego, Opinion Art & Commerce and Gutterflower. The band is currently on tour in North America to support Gutterflower.
