BUENA PARK, CA (December 22, 2003) — The Carmine Caruso Jazz Trumpet Solo competition is an annual event sponsored by the International Trumpet Guild in cooperation with the Herb Alpert Foundation. This year's event featured 5 finalists, each of whom played a 30 minute "set" that included pieces of their choice as well as a mandatory piece, which they received only the previous day. They performed these pieces with a rhythm section before three judges, including the outstanding Yamaha Artist, Tiger Okoshi (who plays a YTR-8335RGS model trumpet). Later that evening, the top prize winners were featured alongside the judges as soloists, backed up by the US Army Blues jazz band. The final results this year proved yet again the excellence of Yamaha trumpets, as both top prize winners play Yamaha.

The $10,000 1st Prize went to 22 year old Dominick Farinacci. Dominick won this honor playing his Yamaha YTR-6310Z. And the $5,000 2nd Prize was awarded to David Bijoy Champagne who plays a Yamaha YTR-8335RGS. 3rd prize is shared by the remaining three players.
