BUENA PARK, CA (July 2, 2004) — Yamaha's entry-level acoustic violins feature high-end specifications at a student-friendly price.

The AV5-12SK, AV5-34SK and AV5-44SK student acoustic violins include features usually found on more expensive instruments. Combining traditional craftsmanship with Yamaha's advanced technology, the instruments were inspired by Guarneri del Gesu's design and development of Yamaha's V30 and V60 violins. The violins are designed, sized, and priced for beginning and intermediate students. They combine the quality Yamaha is known for with value that teachers, parents, and students will enjoy. The outfit includes an innovative, stackable ABS plastic case with an interior pocket for a shoulder rest.

All models feature carved Spruce tops and Maple backs, Ebony fingerboards, oil varnish, inlaid purfling, Rosewood tuning pegs and tailpieces, and expert set-ups completed by luthiers at the internationally renowned Guarneri House. All models are currently available. The violins include the instrument, plastic case and a horsehair bow.

"Discussions with teachers and dealers from across the country led to the introduction of the AV5 and we've drawn on this input to create an outfit that meets their expectations, exceeding the hopes of parents and students alike," says Michael Schaner, Assistant Manager, Strings, Yamaha Band & Orchestral Division. "The AV5 will satisfy everyone that comes into contact with it; teachers will appreciate the sound and craftsmanship, students will really like the innovative ABS plastic case, and parents will appreciate the value."

Also new to the string line are 1/4 and 1/8 sizes for the AV7 student acoustic violins, both currently available. A full-size, hand-carved AV7 student cello and full-size intermediate AV20 violin are also available.
