Yamaha Keeps the Beat at Monterey Jazz Festival

Monterey Jazz Festival
BUENA PARK, CA (October 01, 2004) — The 47th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival featured many of the top names in jazz, as has been the tradition since 1958. This year's Festival offered the approximately 50,000 fans an interesting mixture of legendary and up-and-coming artists in a variety of groups and settings, performing throughout the Festival's 20-acre Monterey Fairgrounds site for three nights and two days, from September 17-19.

Yamaha was back by popular demand as the official drum company for the Festival, providing drums for the seven stages and approximately 500 artists.

"We feel privileged to have enjoyed a long-term relationship with Monterey," said David Jewell, marketing manager, Yamaha Drums. "It's not only great exposure, but also an incredible event. Over the years, the company has not only provided drums and pianos for a number of Festival dates, but has also donated instruments to support the Festival's educational programs throughout the year."

Performers included Regina Carter, Bill Charlap, Bobby McFerrin, Jack DeJohnette, Terrence Blanchard, Buddy Guy, Take 6, Clark Terry, Chaka Khan, Marian McPartland, Arturo O'Farrill, The Monterey Jazz Festival High School All-Star Big Band and the winners of the Monterey Jazz Festival National High School Jazz Competition. Artists did "mix and match" performances throughout the weekend, appearing in various groupings in the Arena and around the Grounds areas.

"I would not do this gig without Yamaha drums," said Monterey Jazz Festival production manager Jeff Wallace. "They bring consistent quality to every stage, and we get nothing but compliments from the artists that play them."
