BUENA PARK, CA — Acknowledged internationally as one of the most challenging educational opportunities for young artists, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI) celebrated its 37th year. Held annually at the campus of Williams College in Williamstown, MA, the event entices performers, teachers and students of piano from around the globe. With the attendance of the Boston Symphony Orchestra – home for the symphony – dedicated young artists spend each summer working with distinguished professionals to hone their musical craft. This year, the event was held from June 20 to August 14. Yamaha provided 48 Yamaha acoustic grand, upright, and Disklavier® pianos for master classes and practice sessions – and a C1 and C2 conservatory grand piano for evening performances.

"The students and staff came from all over the world to immerse themselves in eight weeks of piano smorgasbord," says George Garber, manager of Falcetti Music in Springfield, MA. "That, and the fact that the institute resides within the Berkshires, a beautiful, 'summer resort' area. What we provided were mandated pianos for the international cast of discriminating performers and environmentally-compatible instruments. It was an incredible experience."

Students of high school age attend the Institute, coming from all over the world. In most cases, more than 65 percent of attendees return every year. "The Boston University Tanglewood Institute has a fruitful relationship with Yamaha which provides high-quality pianos annually for our use during our summer season," says Chung-Un Seo, administrative director of the Tanglewood Institute. We deeply appreciate and value Yamaha's support of BUTI's mission, which is to offer outstanding educational opportunities for young, talented musicians."

Since 1966, the program has challenged young students. All of them, despite ability, are allowed – and encouraged – full musical expression. From the 5,000-seat Koussevitzky Music Shed, to the 1,176-seat Ozawa Concert Hall, and the 300-seat Chamber Music Hall, BUTI has provided the means for students to envelop themselves in music. Every year, Yamaha pianos are provided to help them perform their musical aspirations.

These pianos provided for the Tanglewood Institute help make this an even more advantageous opportunity for the young artists who are serious about performing music," says Bernie McCaffery, piano marketing manager, Yamaha Piano Division. "The various piano models – from the Disklavier to the uprights – add a level of variety and tradition to an already diverse community at the University. A tradition we hope to share for many years."
