BUENA PARK, CA (December 23, 2004) — Yamaha's Band & Orchestral Division provided all of the percussion gear and marching brass for Bands of America's (BOA) 330-member Honor Band when it performed at the 2005 Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1, 2005.

The Bands of America Honor Band was the largest national honor band ever assembled, and the first to appear in a national parade in more than a decade. Members of the band were selected by taped audition, and the band was composed of 245 winds, 33 percussionists, a 45-member flag and dance team, one vocalist, one keyboard player and five drum majors. George N. Parks, Director of the University of Massachusetts Minutemen Marching Band, directed the band.

The members of the band represented 206 schools from 42 states, and met for the first time just five days before the parade to learn their selections and rehearse for the show. Musical selections included "Reflections of Earth" from Disney's Epcot Millennium Celebrations, Gloria Estefan's "Get on Your Feet" and "America's March – The Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa.

"Marching in this honor band provides these very talented musicians a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it means a lot to us that we can be a part of it," states Roger Eaton, Director of Marketing, Yamaha Band & Orchestral Division.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2005, BOA's mission is to create and provide positively life-changing experiences through music for students, teachers, parents and communities. BOA is the leading presenter of educational events for high school bands, and now orchestras, in the nation, presenting more than 20 events annually. More than 200,000 teens, family members and enthusiasts attend BOA events each year, with more than 70,000 teens participating.
