Capital Sound Plays Yamaha

San Jose Opera
BUENA PARK, CA (January 07, 2005) — Capital Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, Inc. of Madison, Wisconsin has become the next drum corps to formalize its relationship with Yamaha Corporation of America, Band & Orchestral Division, for the 2005 season and beyond. In doing so, Capital Sound joins an elite group of drum and bugle corps playing Yamaha instruments exclusively.

Capital Sound has played Yamaha percussion since 1999, and will now add Yamaha melodic percussion as well as a full line of brass instruments to its equipment list. The timing for the switch was ideal, as more and more horn lines are switching to Bb instruments. In addition, the corps has grown in size and needed additional instruments.

“Working with Yamaha Percussion over the years made our choice to use Yamaha brass this year very easy,” states Sarah Teschke, Corps Director. “The people at Yamaha are easy to work with and are very committed to making this a very beneficial partnership for all involved. Yamaha brings to Capital Sound everything we need – top-quality instruments, a commitment to education and a great service and support team.”

“It's always inspiring to see the best instruments in the hands of the best performers, and that certainly describes this new partnership between Yamaha and Capital Sound,” says Roger Eaton, director of marketing, Band & Orchestral Division, Yamaha Corporation of America. “It will be a pleasure to watch them take the field.”

Capital Sound Drum & Bugle Corps was formed in 1995 as a co-ed corps by the combination of The Capitolaires, an all-female corps from Madison, and the Madison Junior Scouts, the training corps for the all-male Madison Scouts. In January 2004, the newly formed Capital Sound Drum & Bugle Corps, Inc., a Wisconsin non-profit corporation, assumed the sponsorship and operations of Capital Sound from the corps' previous sponsor, the Madison Drum & Bugle Corps Association.

Membership in the corps is open to all individuals ages 14 through 21. More information about the corps can be found at www.capsound.org.
