Berklee
Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. recently took delivery of 19 drum kits from Yamaha Drums for the current academic year.
According to Matthias Lupri, Percussion Department Manager at Berklee, the school stocks many types of kits and cymbals in the practice areas, ensemble rooms and recording studios in order to give students a feel for the variety of products they will encounter in real-world situations.

“Reaction has been excellent,” says Lupri. “We chose the Yamaha kits because they not only adapt easily to jazz, rock, folk and everything in between, but they also hold up very well. They can take a lot of abuse, since they’re used from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. everyday.” Lupri maintains a staff of work/study crews to ensure that the school’s drum kits and hardware stay in working order.

Other Yamaha products at the school include several Hipgig kits, an Oak Custom used as the house kit in the Berklee Performance Center, and the Subkick sub-frequency capture device, currently in use in the school’s recording studios. The Percussion Department recently began a “drummers-only” keyboard lab program with ten Yamaha P120 digital pianos.

“Berklee has a strong emphasis on performance and commercial music education,” states David Jewell, marketing manager, Yamaha Drums. “Given Yamaha’s dedication to music education, we are delighted to have our products represented at such a prestigious location.”

Berklee College of Music is the world’s largest independent music college and one of the premier institutions for the study of contemporary music, with an enrollment of 3,800 students and 460 faculty members.
