Yamaha AES Series Goes Platinum

Platinum Award
BUENA PARK, CA (April 15, 2005) — Yamaha’s AES Series electric guitars continue to earn top industry honors, and now the AES720 and AES920 have captured the “Platinum Award” in the May 2005 issue of Guitar World magazine. The award, given in conjunction with monthly gear reviews, recognizes excellence in quality and design.

Guitar World is a brand of the Future Music Network, the leading U.S. publisher of cutting-edge games, computing, action sports and musician magazines. Its titles include Guitar ONE, Bass Guitar, Guitar World Acoustic, MacAddict, PC Gamer, Snowboard Journal and Maximum PC. With a monthly circulation of about 200,000, Guitar World features gear and album reviews, artist profiles and tablature. Major guitar artists like Joe Perry, Zakk Wylde and John Scofield are regular columnists.

“Yamaha has invested much thought and quality in the design of these guitars and created two stunning instruments, either of which I’d be happy to own,” reviewer Eric Kirkland commented. “The AES720 combines killer tone and extreme quality, while the AES920 is the industry’s most beautiful, soulful and practical example of a vintage-modern Mahogany guitar.”

The Yamaha AES720 has a solid body and a fast, set-in Mahogany neck. Onboard electronics include Grover tuners, DiMarzio custom neck and bridge pickups with separate volume controls, a master tone control and 3-way EQ switch. The appearance of the AES720 is what sets it apart from other models in the line – metallic finishes with a unique black center, high-tech black anodized hardware and a distinctive AES bridge and tailpiece.

The AES920 blends the vintage with the modern, thanks to its solid Maple body, African Mahogany top and quilted Maple body veneer. The set-in, 24 ¾-in. scale African Mahogany neck features Abalone dot inlays and white position markers. A Yamaha original bridge and AES tailpiece, nickel hardware, die-cast tuners and the choice of Natural or warm Honeyburst top finishes complete the look. The electronics – Duncan '59® neck and bridge pickups with nickel plated covers and separate volume controls, plus master tone and 3-way EQ switch – yield an endless selection of blends for a true custom sound.

Video reviews of the AES720 and AES920 were also featured on the bundled CD-ROM, which is included with the magazine [View a demo].

“This award should really be dedicated to the team at Yamaha Guitar Development for their hours of research and design work,” says Bryan Savage, marketing manager, Yamaha Guitars. “The AES series has always been about amazing looks and sound, and being recognized by a publication like Guitar World proves that those qualities are not going unnoticed by the players or the industry.”
