BUENA PARK, CA (May 27, 2005) — A pair of Yamaha bass products recently earned accolades with back-to-back reviews of the BB Series electric basses and BBT 500H Digital Bass Amplifier appearing in the May and June 2005 issues of # magazine.

The BB414 and BB614 earned the May issue’s “Editor’s Award,” and were praised for their construction, looks, feel and sound.

“I really dug both the BB414 and the BB614,” noted Bass Player editor and reviewer Bill Leigh. “Both have a responsive, inviting quality that’s the result of quality construction, ergonomics, resonance, finish and a good setup. In other words, the new Yamaha BBs are great instruments.”

Yamaha returned to the original classic body styling, vintage features and original colors when it unveiled the new BB electric bass line. Although superb construction has always been the hallmark of the Yamaha BB Series, the new models live up to that standard with solid Alder bodies, bolt-on and -through Maple necks, Rosewood fingerboards, Soap Bar-type pickups and a choice of vintage finishes. The line includes active and passive electronics with 4- and 5-string, left-hand and fretless configurations.

The Yamaha BBT 500H was recognized for its innovation in combining a digital signal procession preamp with a digital switching power amplifier, “two technologies that have been around for years but never in the same head,” according to the review team.

The BBT 500H head was also tested in conjunction with the Yamaha BBT410S 4 x 10 cabinet. “Construction-wise, my favorite thing about the 410S is that it fit into the back of my wagon hatch without me having to lower the back seat,” Leigh noted, “something I’ve never accomplished with any other 4 x 10 cab.”

As the world’s first all digital bass amp head, the BBT 500H offers a total of 11 vintage and modern amplifier sounds, built-in dynamics and amazing tone shaping capability to suit any style of music in a powerful, compact package. Weighing just 8.5 pounds, the unit delivers 500 Watts of power into 2 ohms. The 5-band, frequency-variable tone controls, parametric EQ, compressor and programmable effects blend controls are easily accessible from the front panel. The BBT 500H also features a built-in effects loop, MIDI in/out, five user memory locations and a speaker simulator for additional versatility. Yamaha also offers three speaker systems designed to complement the BBT 500H: BBT 110S (1 x 10” and 1” tweeter), BBT 210S (2 x 10” and 1” tweeter) and BBT 410S (4 x 10” and 1” tweeter).

“Yamaha Bass products have always been known for quality construction, playability and top tone,” said Bryan Savage, marketing manager, Yamaha Guitars. “The BB line has really been the workhorse for so many musicians, and its style, features and quality truly epitomize what made Yamaha a major player in the bass market. This line recaptures the magic and tradition that started it all. The BBT 500H is a new concept in bass amplifiers. It’s amazingly clean and ultra-light, and has all the features that you’d expect in a revolutionary digital product from Yamaha.”
