Instrument Repair Expert Wayne Tanabe

NEW YORK (June 27, 2005) — Yamaha Artist Services, Inc. announces the appointment of Wayne Tanabe, the innovative brass instrument repair technician who founded The Brass Bow Music Company more than 20 years ago, as its Senior Technical Manager. His arrival adds an unmatched level of brass expertise to a staff that already includes woodwind expert Tomoji Hirakata.

"Mr. Tanabe brings unique skills to our Atelier on Fifth Avenue," says Terry Lewis, President, Yamaha Artist Services, Inc. "With two highly skilled wind technicians, each with their respective strength in woodwinds and brass, our facility will be unmatched in its ability to provide service to the world's finest professional wind players."

Tanabe has been associated with the brass instrument market for 28 years, and founded The Brass Bow in 1983. He is widely recognized for his pioneering work in the fields of musical instrument cryogenics, ultrasonic cleaning, computer analysis of brass instruments and magnetic dent removal.

"For many reasons, Wayne Tanabe was our first choice," says Band & Orchestral Atelier Director Bob Malone. "His vast experience, highly honed technical skills and commitment to excellence have earned him the respect of many of the world's top performing artists. He is a technician's technician, and a tremendous addition to our team."

As Yamaha Performing Artist John Hagstrom, trumpeter for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, notes, "His work blends ingenious innovation, incredible technical knowledge, decades of experience, and a friendly helpful attitude into one of the most creative and successful technicians in the world today."

Tanabe has served as a consultant for instrument design and development of components for other manufacturers as well as his own former company, Chicago Brass Works. A charter member of National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT), he gives frequent clinics in both regional and national NAPBIRT conferences.

"Yamaha is a forward looking company whose vision and philosophy mirrors my own," says Tanabe. "By joining Yamaha Artist Services, Inc., I see an opportunity for personal and professional growth as well as opportunities to make significant contributions to both the performing artist and the band instrument repair technician communities at levels that I could not achieve on my own. It is a good fit and I look forward to helping Yamaha make a difference."
