The Cadets Clinch DCI Championships
BUENA PARK, CA (September 9, 2005) — Marching entirely with Yamaha brass, percussion and sound reinforcement equipment, The Cadets (of Allentown, Pa.) won the 2005 Drum Corps International (DCI) Division I World Championships with a score of 99.150.
In addition, The Cadets won the High Brass and High Percussion titles. This marks the fourth time in five years that The Cadets have won the High Percussion award, all since deciding to play Yamaha. The 33rd annual competition for the world’s top drum and bugle corps took place in August at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.
Two all-Yamaha groups finished second and fifth, respectively. The Cavaliers (of Rosemont, Ill.) had a score of 97.625 and the Bluecoats (of North Canton, Ohio) scored 94.450. The Bluecoats recorded their highest finish ever this year, their first with Yamaha.
Using Yamaha percussion, The Madison Scouts (of Sun Prairie, Wis.), placed fourth; Santa Clara Vanguard (of Santa Clara, Calif.), playing Yamaha brass, placed eighth and Spirit from JSU (Jacksonville, Ala.), playing Yamaha percussion and some Yamaha brass placed 12th.
In six years, three Yamaha groups have won the High Brass title; in 21 years, 11 Yamaha groups have won the High Percussion title. This is the 13th DCI Championship, in 21 years, for corps using Yamaha equipment.
