BUENA PARK, CA (November 11, 2005) — Yamaha Corporation of America, Band & Orchestral Division, provided approximately one dozen low brass instruments (sousaphones, marching baritones and mellophones) as well as a full percussion line (bass, tenor and snare drums) for the 2005 National Boy Scout Jamboree held this summer at Fort A.P. Hill, Va.

Held every four years, the Jamboree has welcomed Yamaha as its official instrument supplier for the Jamboree since 1997. During the course of the week-long event, Scouts earn merit badges and participate in a variety of outdoors activities, and the Scout band has been an integral part of the Jamboree for many years. While a small group of staff oversees and plays in the band, the majority is composed of participants in the Jamboree. The band played a number of concerts in Washington, D.C., two large outdoor shows held on-site at the fort and at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington.

“We are happy to have continued to support the Boy Scout band again this year,” says Roger Eaton, Director of Marketing, Yamaha Corporation of America, Band & Orchestral Division. “Scouts from all over the world come together for this event and we’re glad to have been a part of it.”

“It was very gratifying to see the Boy Scout Jamboree band carrying on its tradition using Yamaha instruments,” says Roger Eaton, Director of Marketing, Yamaha Corporation of America, Band & Orchestral Division. “This event highlights the ideals that guide scouts around the world, and it’s a privilege to play a part in such a prestigious gathering.”

More than 43,000 Scouts, leaders and staff members attended this years’ Jamboree, the most highly attended since 1964. As a highlight of the gathering, President George W. Bush addressed the Scouts, celebrating the values of Scouting and its volunteers.

“We truly appreciate the generosity of Yamaha in providing instruments for the Boy Scout Jamboree band to use,” says Linda Hughes of the Boy Scouts of America. “It is not every day that boys from all over the country come together to play in a band before their peers.”
