Crossroads Church Puts Its Faith In Yamaha

CORONA, Calif. — Making good on its mission to be "a church anyone can come to," Crossroads is a multi-ethnic, bi-lingual, non-denominational, multi-generational house of worship that seeks to help people with their spiritual search for meaning and to encounter God. Music is integral to its ministry and the church uses a wide range of Yamaha instruments and sound products to help convey its gospel message.

Known not only for celebrating diversity, Crossroads also embraces an element of risk in how it reaches out to its congregation, looking to out-of-the-box concepts to encourage attendance. "The biggest part of the equation is getting them through the door," explains Crossroads Technical Director Rob Smoot. The recent raffle of a donated Harley Davidson motorcycle is proof of this philosophy in action. "We're edgy; we take risks on stuff."

Given that Crossroads enjoys an average weekly attendance of between 6-7,000 worshippers, this risk-taking is clearly paying off.

To better accommodate its expanding congregation and musical and performance needs, the church has expanded into an exciting new hub for concerts and entertainment, called Stage 1 at Candlewalk. Far beyond being simply a worship venue, the state-of-the-art, 3,500 seat facility utilizes the most advanced production available for the worship venue that is also intended to attract top Christian touring acts.

Candlewalk consists of four entities: Crossroads Christian Church, the London Institute Graduate School of Ministry, the Third Place Café, and the Stage One Auditorium. Up to nine retail outlets are planned on the property.

In the spring of 2005, multi-platinum artists Lonestar and Olivia Newton-John headlined the inaugural performances at the venue, raising over fifteen thousand dollars for local charities, Kids Rock Free® at The Fender Center® for the Performing Arts and the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. Such acts as SheDaizy, Amy Grant, and Delirious? have also performed at the facility.

To accommodate these national-level touring acts, Candlewalk uses a full range of Yamaha musical instruments including a Motif rack (a rack mount module version of the award-winning Motif synthesizer), a Yamaha C7 MidiPiano, S80 and Motif 8 keyboards and a Yamaha Beech Custom drum kit.

"Yamaha MIDI is the top requested piano – it's the top notch pick. We mix the piano with the Motif Rack. It works in many different scenarios. It sounds great mic'd as well," raves Smoot. "We found a company that could make a killer board and a killer piano. Yamaha gear is rock solid."

"Candlewalk was designed to present the ultimate audio and visual experience to its community," states Mike Overlin, Manager of Worship Services, Yamaha Corporation of America. "Supported by Yamaha's range of musical instruments, this vision has become a reality."
