2005 International Chopin Competition Finalist To Perform Recital At Yamaha Artist Services

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Jacek Kortus will present a recital of works by Chopin and Liszt at Yamaha Artist Services on May 2, 2006 at 7:30 PM.

The Chopin portion of the program will include: Nocturne, C minor, Op. 48. No.1; Four Mazurkas (Op. 17: No. 1 B flat major; No. 2 E minor; No. 3 A flat major; No. 4 A minor); Waltz, A flat major Op. 34 No. 1; Scherzo B minor Op. 20; Scherzo, C sharp minor Op. 39; and the Polonaise A flat major Op. 53.

Kortus will also present three works by Liszt: Hungarian Rhapsody No. 11 in A minor; Etude A minor from Grandes Etudes de Paganini; and the Tarantella from Venezia e Napoli.

As the youngest finalist of the 2005 International Chopin Competition, 17-year-old Jacek Kortus is establishing himself as one of the most interesting musical talents of his generation. A senior at the Henryk Wieniawski National School of Music in Poznan, Poland, Kortus is a winner of two notable piano competitions, the 9th Chopin International Competition in Antonin, Poland and the 2002 National Ludwik Competition in Lodz, Poland.

Kortus was chosen as scholarship recipient of the foundation established by Jolanta and Aleksander Kwasniewski (the former first lady and president of Poland) and is a two-time recipient of the Poland Ministry of Culture Scholarship. As a finalist in the 2005 International Chopin Competition, he was awarded with concert engagements at venues throughout Poland, Russia and Europe.
