Emerging Japanese Pianist Performs Eclectic Recital

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Japanese Pianist Yukiko Akagi will present a recital at Yamaha Artist Services on May 12, 2006. This event is free and open to the public.

The diverse program comprises works representative of the Modern, Romantic, Baroque and Impressionist musical styles, including: Scarlatti – Three Sonatas (E major, K.380, B minor, K.87, and D minor, K.1); Albeniz – "Navarra"; Takemitsu – "Les Yeux Clos"; Liszt – "Apres Une lecture du Dante"; Debussy – "Ondine" and "Feux d'artifice" (From Preludes Book 2); and Rachmaninoff – Piano Sonata in B-flat minor Op.36, No. 2.

A graduate of the Toho Conservatory, the Mannes College of Music, and the Manhattan School of Music, Ms. Akagi has performed throughout the United States, France, Spain and in her native Japan, appearing at such distinguished venues as Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall and Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall.

Winner of the Dorothy Mackenzie Award, she is the 2nd prize winner of the 2005 Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona and has received prizes at the NTPA Competition, the Luis A. Ferre International Piano Competition and the Artist International Competition.

Equally comfortable as a soloist and chamber musician, her performances have been featured on the classical radio stations WQXR (New York) and WCLV (Cleveland). Ms. Akagi has been described as "a very gifted pianist who displays a unique temperament and vitality" and "a natural performer and communicator."
