BUENA PARK, Calif. — Yamaha Corporation of America invites music educators throughout the country to take part in its 2006 Summer Technology Seminars. There, master educators will lead hands-on sessions on the latest Yamaha digital musical instruments and production equipment. Participants will learn about new software, teaching materials and technology applications, explore options for funding a studio or a classroom, and enjoy the exciting performance opportunities made possible by new technology.

Yamaha presents its 11th annual Summer Technology Seminars in Tucson, Chicago, Philadelphia and Norman, Oklahoma.
The seminars will be presented in four locations across the country, including the University of Arizona in Tucson on June 20, 21 and 22; the Merit School of Music in Chicago, on June 27, 28 and 29; The University of Oklahoma in Norman on July 11, 12 and 13; and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, on July 25, 26 and 27.

The curriculum addresses the needs of a wide range of participants. These include: private studio teachers with Yamaha equipment or with students who own Yamaha digital instruments; teachers who participate in the Yamaha Clavinova Festival; any school or university educator with Yamaha equipment in the classroom; and any teacher or school administrator considering the establishment of a music lab featuring keyboards and/or other electronic instruments (such as Yamaha Silent Strings and Electronic Drums).

For teachers seeking to stand out from their peers, STS offers certification on various Yamaha instrument and classroom technologies. This training enables private teachers to differentiate themselves, offering a competitive edge over their non-certified peers. Yamaha-certified public school or college teachers gain credibility when working with administrators and colleagues.

"Master educators and product specialists from across the U.S. have helped seminar attendees improve their understanding and application of music technology for over a decade," says Mike Bates, Director of Yamaha's Institutional and Commercial Services Department. "STS instructors include classroom music teachers, music technology pioneers, composers and active performers who all share an enthusiasm for working with teachers to make the process of music education more enjoyable, effective and rewarding for everyone involved."

Topics include using Yamaha instruments and products, including Clavinova digital pianos, portable keyboards, synthesizers, audio gear and more; teaching with Yamaha Lab Systems (MLC, LC2) and Music in Education (MIE). The sessions also cover new ways to use and program instruments for performance; new strategies for private studio teachers; and new group teaching strategies for public, private and university teachers.

The program will additionally cover resources for software, sheet music, and other studio/classroom needs; multi-track recording; as well as arranging, improvising and composing.

"As a major supporter of music and arts education, Yamaha offers outstanding training in digital and acoustic music," says Electronic Keyboard Marketing Manager Jim Levesque. "STS offers educators the opportunity to devote full attention to new teaching tools, so you can dedicate time to understanding new instruments and concepts while honing your skills. It also provides an excellent opportunity to network with other devoted professionals."

STS is a joint project of Yamaha's Institutional & Commercial Services and Music Marketing Groups. The seminar costs $300.00, and includes all sessions, workbook, disks and other materials. Discounts are available for early enrollment. For further details and registrations packets, please call (866) YAMAEDU. An online registration form is available at www.yamaha.com/sts.
