INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Yamaha is proud to announce the newest addition to its artist roster, Cuong Vu.

Yamaha Artist Coung Vu
A jazz trumpet artist and member of the Pat Metheny Group, Cuong Vu was born in Saigon, Vietnam and immigrated to Seattle at the age of six. Vu attended the New England Conservatory of Music on a full scholarship. After receiving his degree, he went on to perform with musicians such as Dave Douglas, Cibo Matto and Davie Bowie, and has led his own trio. Pat Metheny fell in love with Cuong's sound when he heard the trumpeter on a club date, and in 2002 Vu became a member of the Pat Metheny Group.

Vu is quickly becoming one of the fastest rising stars in jazz. Frequently compared to Miles Davis, critics praise Vu's highly original sound and lyrical style of playing. His awards include the Colbert Award and the Downtown Arts Project Emerging Artist Award. He also picked up GRAMMY® Awards for his work with the Pat Metheny Group on the albums Speaking of Now and The Way Up.

Cuong Vu currently performs using a YTR-8310Z Bobby Shew model trumpet.

"The Yamaha Z is amazingly precise yet versatile, consistent from top to bottom registers and just plain easy to play," says Vu. "Even so, what really got me was that after just a couple of notes, I knew that I'd finally found 'my sound.'"
