Yamaha Drums Sponsors October Drum Clinic Tour Featuring Akira Jimbo

BUENA PARK, Calif. — International drumming sensation Akira Jimbo will embark on an eight-date clinic tour beginning on October 16, making stops in Boston, Mass., Atlanta, Ga., Orlando, Fla., Lansing, Mich., Fraser, Mich., Houston, Texas, Tucson, Ariz. and Los Angeles, Calif. In addition to main sponsors Yamaha Drums and Zildjian Cymbals, Remo and Vic Firth are also supporting the mini-tour.

Participants will get an "up close and personal" audience with the drumming legend, who will display the dynamic style and signature technique made popular on his instructional videos. He will also field questions from the audience on topics ranging from musical influences to technique tips to equipment choices.

Akira started playing drums at the age of 18 at Keio University in Japan, where he was a member of the school's Light Music Society Big Band. In 1980 he joined the group Casiopea, releasing over a dozen albums and touring internationally. As a solo artist, he has released over 10 albums and four acclaimed instructional videos: Pulse, Metamorphosis, Independence and Evolution (DCI Music Video/Warner Brothers). His setup includes Yamaha Beech Custom Drums, a Signature Snare, the Yamaha DTX Drum Trigger System, Zildjian Cymbals, Remo Drum heads and Vic Firth Sticks.
