Yamaha's Day of Trumpets III Attracts Top Jazz Talent
NEW YORK, N.Y. Music aficionados visited Yamaha Artist Services Inc., in New York City, for clinics and concerts by acclaimed trumpet players Tiger Okoshi, Marvin Stamm and Brian Lynch at this year's Day of Trumpets, held on December 4.

Focusing on trumpet playing and making music, the day-long event gave participants the opportunity to tour the Band & Orchestral Atelier and take part in hands-on instrument testing, with technicians available to discuss Yamaha trumpets and customization options. A 1975 Berklee summa cum laude graduate, Tiger Okoshi has performed with the Mike Gibbs Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and toured with the Buddy Rich Orchestra. He has appeared at numerous jazz festivals around the world. His fusion group, Tigers Baku, was featured on the cruise liner Queen Elizabeth 2 in August 1998 for the Newport Jazz Festival at Sea. Currently, Okoshi is a professor at the Berklee College of Music.
Marvin Stamm has been praised for both the art and the craft of trumpet playing. Discovered by Stan Kenton while attending North Texas State University, he joined Kenton's orchestra as his jazz trumpet soloist and recorded five albums with them.
He has toured worldwide with Woody Herman and performed with Frank Sinatra, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, the Duke Pearson Big Band and the Benny Goodman Sextet, among others. Some of the Jazz artists with whom he has recorded include Bill Evans, Quincy Jones, Lena Horne and George Benson. Stamm's current activities include performing as a soloist and touring with his jazz quartet and often in duo with pianist Bill Mays.

With more than 12 CDs as a leader and well over 100 recordings as a sideman, Brian Lynch is an accomplished composer and arranger, as well as an acclaimed educator and clinician. A graduate of two of the Jazz world's most important schools, The Horace Silver Quintet and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, he now records and tours the world as a bandleader in his own right, and is an integral part of the groups of alto legend Phil Woods and Latin master Eddie Palmieri, both fellow Yamaha artists.
