Award-Winning Pianist Marc Durand Takes The Stage for Master Classes at Yamaha Artist Services, Inc.

BUENA PARK, Calif. — Award-winning classical pianist Marc Durand will coach promising young pianists as he offers expert technical and artistic guidance in a series of master classes at the third floor piano salon at Yamaha Artist Services, Inc. The series will take place on Friday and Saturday, March 2 & 3 at 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Born in 1949, pianist Marc Durand has become a sought-after performer and pedagogue in both Canada and the United States. As a pianist, Durand has studied with Montreal's Yvonne Hubert, a protégée of Alfred Cortot; Philadelphia's Harvey Wedeen and Alexander Fiorillo, a pupil of Horowitz; and New York's Adele Marcus. His strongest artistic influence, however has been his Royal Conservatory collaborator Leon Fleisher, whom he has worked closely with since 1988.

Durand has been heard regularly on Canadian radio and television and has been a soloist with a number of orchestras. A vocal and chamber music specialist, he has made many recordings of French art songs with such vocalists as Canadian baritone Bruno Laplante, including the complete vocal works of Eric Satie and Henri Duparc. He has also recorded with mezzo soprano Marie Laferrière and violinist Vladimir Landsman and with other Canadian singers: Odette Beaupré, Lyne Fortin, Monique Pagé, Karina Gauvin, Gaétan Laperrière and Jean-François Lapointe (Lyres Records/Canada). He has toured extensively in North America, Europe and Asia and given concerts in Egypt, Indonesia and Australia.

An acclaimed teacher, Durand has given master classes at some of the finest Canadian and American music schools, including the Peabody Institute in Baltimore (Maryland), the Eastman School of Music in Rochester (New York), the Oberlin Conservatory (Ohio), Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Mount Royal College in Calgary (Alberta, Canada) and Acadia University (Wolfville, Nova Scotia).
