Yamaha Artist Ching-Yun Hu to Make Lincoln Center Debut at Alice Tully Hall

BUENA PARK, Calif. — Virtuoso pianist and Yamaha artist Ching-Yun Hu will make her Lincoln Center debut on Monday, March 5th at 8 p.m. at Alice Tully Hall in New York City.

The program will include Fantasia Contrappuntistica by Kenneth Leighton (Winner of the Busoni Prize in 1956), Rondo in E-Flat Major, Op. 16 and Scherzo in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 39 by Chopin. Sonata in D Major, K. 576 by Mozart, "El Amor y la Muerte," from Goyescas by Granados, Iberia: Triana by Albeniz and Sonata No. 2 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 36 (1931) by Rachmaninoff will round out the program.

Born in 1982 in Taipei, Taiwan, Ms. Hu has received recognition as an accomplished pianist with enormous promise. A student of Herbert Stessin and Oxana Yablonskaya, the young performer has received both her Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees from The Juilliard School of Music. She has also studied chamber music with Timothy Eddy, Joseph Kalichstein and Seymour Lipkin.

A world-renowned performer, Ms. Hu has appeared at such prestigious venues as the Concertgebouw (The Netherlands), Salle Cortot (France), Aspen Music Festival (Colorado), Chopin International Festival (Poland), National Chiang Kai-Shek Performance Hall (Republic of China) and Osaka Hall (Japan), as well as various other concert halls in Spain, Portugal, Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States.

She made her solo debut at age 13 with the Poland Capella Cracoriensis Chamber Orchestra on their Japan and Taiwan tour. Three years later, she was awarded the Silver Medal at the Taipei International Piano Competition. Ms. Hu has received First Prizes in the Olga Koussevitzsky International Piano Competition and the Seiler International Piano Competition, along with top honors at the Chopin Competitions of the Kosciusko Foundation in New York. In addition, she has appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Aspen Concert Orchestra (Colorado), New York Sinfonietta and Viana do Castelo Festival Orchestra (Portugal). Ms. Hu's performances have been aired by the WQXR Robert Sherman Young Artists Showcase, The WRTI Philadelphia Orchestra Broadcast Concert Series and the Polish National Radio and Television Stations.

Ms. Hu has worked in master classes with Leon Fleisher, Richard Goode and Murray Perahia. She has also coached with Seymour Bernstein. Currently she is studying with Sergei Babayan at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
