Yamaha Partners With Macy's Great American Marching Band For 2006 Thanksgiving Day Parade®

BUENA PARK, Calif. — Yamaha recently supplied Band & Orchestral instruments to the Macy's Great American Marching Band, which led off the 2006 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade® in New York City.

Showcasing more than 200 student musicians representing all 50 states, the Macy's Great American Marching Band kicked off the 80th annual Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Fifty percussion instruments and more than one hundred silver horns were provided by Yamaha's Band & Orchestral Division for the 2006 Macy's Great American Marching Band. The package included trumpets, trombones and sousaphones, as well as marching euphoniums and mellophones. Percussion equipment included marching snares, toms and bass drums.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is legendary for its rigid standards, highly competitive selection process and deep rooted traditions in regional diversity. Now with a new partnership with MUSIC FESTIVALS and under the leadership of Dr. Richard Good, Auburn University's Director of the Marching Band and Assistant Director of Bands, and Dr. Jon Woods, Ohio State University's Marching Band Director, the Macy's Great American Marching Band has been established. Showcasing more than 200 student musicians representing all 50 states, this all-star ensemble kicked off the 80th annual parade.

Due to last year's success, Yamaha has agreed to again provide instruments to the 2007 Macy's Great American Marching Band. To be considered for the 2007 band, brass and woodwind players must submit an audio recording (cassette or CD), while percussionists must send a VHS or DVD audition tape. Prospective performers must be enrolled as high school students during the 2007-2008 school years. The participants' package plan will include meals, lodging and New York City sightseeing.
