All American College Band Unites Talent

BUENA PARK, Calif. — Yamaha Corporation of America's Band & Orchestral Division will provide instruments to the Disneyland Resort® All American College Band Presented by Yamaha. The band was launched in 1971 as a way to cultivate relationships between the Disneyland Resort® and colleges/universities around the country. Creating further value to this outstanding program, Yamaha and the Disneyland Resort® have joined in partnership, enhancing their strong ties with the nation's best college music programs. Yamaha is the official supplier of musical instruments to the Disneyland Resort®.

Among the more than 65 Yamaha instruments provided to those selected to perform in the All American College Band Presented by Yamaha will be flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, flugelhorns, trombones, mellophones, tubas, horns, marching bass drums, a Silent Bass and Silent Brass Systems. Yamaha is already the official supplier of musical instruments to the Disneyland Resort® and sponsors its internationally acclaimed "Disney's Magic Music Days," which welcomes more than 100,000 high school students each year to visit and perform.

Last year saw the re-introduction of Dr. Ron McCurdy, Chair of the Jazz department at the University of Southern California, as the director of this group of exceedingly talented college musicians. Dr. McCurdy succeeded the retired Dr. Arthur C. Bartner, Director of Bands at the University of Southern California. 2007 will bring new modules in the educational portion of the band, focusing on broader application of the music business with programs taught by experts in composition and arranging, careers in music, recording and production.

The program will continue its broad presence in the Disneyland entertainment scene, with five performance sets per day at high traffic venues throughout the resort.

Since its inception, more than 600 talented musicians have become alumni of the Disneyland Resort® All American College Band, and jobs currently held by alums include: Director of the School of Music at Texas Tech; Vice President of Entertainment at Sea World Orlando; Dean of Duquesne University's School of Music; Director of Bands for the University of Notre Dame; First Chair Tuba in the Chicago Symphony and Director of Symphonic Band at Wheaton University. Its alumni base is also comprised of musicians for multiple Broadway musicals and productions; directors and players for several military bands; and players/writers/composers/educators/clinicians for just about every major orchestra/band, university, and high school music program in the country. This program is renowned as a life changing experience for many students.

In the past, the band has provided entertainment for major press events for the Disneyland Resort and Buena Vista Pictures, as well as for outside events, such as the opening of the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace and Disney sponsored productions at the Hollywood Bowl. Past alumni have performed with Maynard Ferguson, The Count Basie Orchestra and the Los Angeles and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, while others have become highly successful educators and professionals in all facets of the entertainment industry.
